I was speaking with a friend about the glorious March weather we are enjoying and noted that the only thing that would make it better would be heading down to the Dome to watch a game with the roof open. He mentioned that he use to work at the Dome and they wouldn't open the roof until a certain date which usually didn't occur until at least late April.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue? What if it's 25 degrees on Opening Day? Does that mean they will not only not open the dome, but also not air condition the place? Just something to think about with our very early start to spring this year.

Home opener is not until April 9th. It is impossible to say what the weather will be.
I have looked for it in the past and could not find anything official. All I know is it is true they will not open the Dome until a certain date regardless of the weather.

Re: Question about The Roof at Skydome
Yes there is always chatter about this "certain date" that they don't open the roof until.
Of course it would be rather moronic if this date was written in stone. People have already been quite angry in previous years because the roof was closed on a nice day - this year may be even worse since it's getting warmer so much earlier.
Hopefully the dinosaurs at Rogers are taking note and make plans to open the roof earlier this year.

I would hope if it is nice it will be open, but you just never know with Rogers.
My guess is they will wait until the forecast predicts a number of nice days in a row. That way it can just stay open.

Re: Question about The Roof at Skydome
I heard somewhere that there had to be a certain number of days in a row above a certain temperature before they open it for the first time...but no idea what those numbers are or how true, if true at all, that is
But, yeah, a home opener with dome open in nice weather would be absolutely amazing.

Re: Question about The Roof at Skydome
I think they add some kind of weatherproofing to the roof in the fall before the roof gets permanently shut for the winter. I'm guessing they will only remove that if they know that the weather will be nice for a while.
I think everyone agrees that watching a game on a hot day with the roof closed is terrible, especially later in the game when it gets hot, humid and stinky inside.

I actually don't agree with that. I hate when the dome is open and you are stuck sitting in sun.

Re: Question about The Roof at Skydome
They're pretty lazy about opening up the roof. Typically they don't for the first few weeks as there is a seal as was mentioned that has to be removed. The only way to tell if they will open it is there is a small opening on the far left. That section will open up before the whole roof opens up.
