I don't think we have to worry about any of the baggage he might bring because Lionel has created quite a strong culture on this squad. People won't put up with any nonsense and it's really hard to think of any kind of scenario where he could sabotage the team. And Lionel needs to be coach of the year if Grizzlies finish top 3 or 4 in my opinion.

As a Wizards fans, I really hope this signing works out for you. Gil was always a good guy and hard worker. I'll be rooting for you guys in the playoffs.

Did the Grizz push themselves above the tax line to sign him? Has this been asked of the team's front office?

At a glance, it looks like they were about $50,000 below the tax line after the Young trade. Great planning by the GM. And then they signed him and he'll be getting about $410,000 or so if I calculated correctly.

wiz fan here, Arenas was never a locker room cancer in my book. Shouldn't be concerned with his "antics" that so many people may claim about. If he can regain even 80% of what he used to be, should be a good help off the bench. I'll be rooting for you guys even more so now than last year in the playoffs.

How has Gil played so far? I havnt been able to watch him, just been following the box scores. Some Wizards fans have been impressed, but as you may have noticed, us Wizards fans have a very loyal (sometimes blinding) attachment to this guy.

Gil asked for a chance and the Grizz will give him one. One thing about Coach Hollins, he owns this locker room and the team has bought into his leadership. As craptastic as the AI "era" was with the Grizz, it laid the foundation as to who the boss was and who ownership would back. This group was a perfect fit for Arenas IMO. Young, but with respected team leadership and a coach that doesn't pull punches.

So far, so good. Arenas seems to really be responding to it.

Orlando Dawg wrote:Terrible move. I thought the Griz were on a run and playing well. Why bring in this guy?

Dude plays like a 40-year old pretending he's Peter Pan

Statistically he had one of the worst seasons in NBA history last year. He's a smug guy tries to be funny comes off as creepy, everyone on the team knows he's getting paid 20+ mil for a couple more years by a diff team that just wants him to go away.

Can't jump, can't shoot (although he certainly tries as much as he can), can't finish, nobody knows what he is going to do next including the refs and his teammates, acts like he got dribbled into a corner when he is in the center of the court, perplexled look on his face as if he doesn't know what's going on, deer in the headlights

20 games left hopefully the Griz can see the light, cut him after about 16 games and have a few games back to normal where they can get tuned-up for the playoffs

Hmmm... somebody was certainly sounding bitter.

Arenas has done all right for the Grizzlies so far. I just wish they would have signed him a month or so earlier so he'd be able to get into the best game shape possible heading into the playoffs.

The organization loves him.

I'm happy for him. It would be classic Arenas to work himself out of the situation he was in. Rooting for Gil the rest of the way!

For those of you who do not know, Gil was a 2nd round pick and worked his way up to NBA superstardom through pure hard work. Dude is a gym rat.
