Why does Nash refuse to shoot now?
I started to see this a bit at the start of the season, but over the last few games it's becoming obvious. He just won't shoot unless he is WIDE open, I'm talkin nobody within 6 feet of him. The only buckets he seems to get now are wide open jumpers or layups. He never goes 1 on 1 anymore or shoots a 3 off the dribble. What gives? Does he not have the lift in his legs anymore? Is he finally slowing down?

Yes... 15+ assists in a good amount of games lately... totally slowing down. The Suns have been winning without him scoring. He's been distributing like crazy. If it's working, why change it?

Well his shot attempts at the rim and free throw attempts have gone down pretty much every season, which makes sense. He's adjusted his game to go even further into distributor mode. I think he was hesitant for that last layup because LeBron swatted the s*** out of his layup in the 1st quarter, and he saw him coming over for help D. Honestly, setting up Frye for the open layup wasn't a bad move...until Frye apparently just threw it at the backboard as hard as he could

Because he's still our best offensive weapon, he should be shooting more. He can pad his assists all he wants, it still doesn't excuse the fact that he has a better chance at making a shot than anyone on the roster. The only thing Steve has been useful for lately is distributing the ball, that isn't going to cut it. He needs to score at least 15 a night.

15 assists = 30-40 points. 15 points = 15 points.

Though... all said, I do agree he needs to look for his shot a bit more.

Ya but nash normally puts up those assist numbers lol. Maybe 15 and 11 = 37-47 Pts.

15 points + 12 assists > 7 points + 15 assists
This team isn't that potent offensively for Nash to be averaging 12 assists a night. There's a better chance of him making a basket than a teammate making one from a pass from him.

Re: Why does Nash refuse to shoot now?
Its because he is old. His legs arnt there, so he tends to miss more. Easy to say he's shooting above 50% when he only takes 4 to 5 shots a game. This right here is one of the major reasons why i wanted Nash to be traded. He isnt a scoring threat anymore, thus teams dont have to worry about that part of his game.
Its just like last year, he quit driving to the hoop. Oh, he still took it in the lane, but 90% of the time he would just kick it out to an open man. Once you arnt a threat to score, it makes it easier for defenders to shut your game down, because your are now one dimensional. Specially with our team, we have role players starting that rely heavily on Nash, so if Nash gets shut down, our whole team gets shut down and turns dysfunctional, just ask Jason Kidd.
Kidd slowly became the same way, now he is the invisible man on The Mav's. All he can really do is hit an occasional open 3 pointer, and i see Nash becoming the same thing.
Thats why i would like a good combo-guard like a Rose/Westbrook/Wall and am totally against drafting a pure PG player like Marshall. Marshall has great passing and court vision, but his offense blows, so shut down his passing is all defenders are concerned with doing.

I'd like to see him pull a Kobe one time and shoot 40 shots in a game. I think Nash could score 50 if he really want to.

Right now, against the Lakers, Dragic has 16points (7-13FG, 2-4 3pt), 13 assists, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Not at his age, maybe 4-5 years ago, but that is long gone.
Over the past 5 games, Nash is averaging 7.5 points.

Well, on the bright side we are winning, and only lost to MIA by 4.

True, im just waiting on the rest of the league to figure out Nash's shot isnt there, and keep him from distributing the ball while letting him shoot more. Once teams learn to let Nash be the scorer and not the facilitator, it all over for us.

I'm sure he can adjust to that. But it might be that the season is getting to him. Hill has looked great though. So whether there's a difference in how their bodies react to age and a compressed season is anyone's guess.

Re: Why does Nash refuse to shoot now?
That certainly is a very plausible explanation. We got to keep in mind however that this season is an aberration. The condensed schedule makes it very hard for Nash to recover in between games. Age could certainly have caught up with him to an extent but I feel all these games without rest is really what's making his legs go dry. Like he might regain some steps next year on a normal schedule.

Re: Why does Nash refuse to shoot now?
Because creating for others takes less of a physical tole over the course of a game (his words). Plus he is 38, no PG can do what they used to, Stockton, Kidd were shells of themsleves near the end. We don't have this guy anymore...

Re: Why does Nash refuse to shoot now?
I would like to see him take a few more shots. With his shooting stroke, he hurts the team by not taking more than say.... 5 shots in a game.
Do what we did with Redd.... and set up open oppotunities for him to shoot by just running him off a screen and a curl.

Re: Why does Nash refuse to shoot now?
Nash needs to start shooting more. He had an easy layup down by 4 and passed it out to Frye. I always wished Nash could be like CP3/Williams and just go bananas and score just like he did in Dallas series back in 06.
