Bringing on JJ Hickson
I'm officially staring the movement in favor of bringing JJ Hickson aboard with eyes on him taking over one of the Forward spots next season. He was waived this week by Sacramento after struggling with injuries.
He's a big, strong kid @ 6'9" and 240lbs. He averaged nearly 14 ppg & 9 rpg last year in less than 30 mpg.
He's young (and cheap). He's alo injured and perhaps a tad immature, but we're talking a pretty modest investment to bring him in. And after spending the last couple of seasons on last place teams, I'm sure he'd be happy to be on a winning team with a couple of consummate professionals like JJ, Hinrich, Marvin and the gang.
Also, for the past few years we've had two Power Forwards in our starting lineup, and ironically no backup PFs. At all.
Depending on what your thoughts on Ivan the Terrible are, Hickson is a guy who could fill that role long term. And we've got the perfect guy to tutor Hickson on being a productive, defense oriented in assistant coach Tyrone Hill.
Young, cheap with upside. The only question is at who's expense. I'm thinking Erick Dampier.

You guys cant be serious.
The guy is young. He's looking for his next long term contract.
Suns and Warriors are likely landing spots.

I would like it being he is from around here also. We really don't need another PF but you don't know what is going to happen with Josh and this would be like getting back that draft pick we gave away for cash to the Warriors he still has that much upside.

Guys who get waived in the NBA don't typically sign long-term big money contracts right after.
He's just looking for a job right now.
The Kings tried to trade him away, but found no takers for even a 2nd round pick.
Sacramento just signed a player for the veterans minimum on a 10-day contract rather than keep Hickson around.
I don't think he's in position to demand big bucks yet. But he should be motivated to produce so he can bump up his worth for a new contract next year or the 2013-2014 season.
He's this close to ending up n the D-League and falling out of the NBA altogether. His saving graces are his size and age.
Smart GMs pounce on guys like this. Buy low, sell (or trade) high.

JJ makes too much sense for us and I doubt the ASG are willing to pay. He played in Marietta, Georgia and would be a nice addition to our team. He can play both the 4/5.
It's a pipe dream with the ownership that we have.

The Warriors and Suns appear to be the early frontrunners to sign J.J. Hickson if he clears waivers, according to sources.

I won't deny that we need the depth at the 5 but Hollins is far from the player that Hickson is.

Hickson is much better, true, but if you don't get him, I think what Hollins offers is very useful.
I guess I am just tired of watching Teague and Josh putting assist right into Zaza's hands and watching him blow layup after layup. A guy that can rebound at a decent rate, challenge shots at the basket and FINISH is what I would like to see.

Well, that is not Ryan Hollins.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Ryan Hollins only skill is Dunk, and challenge shots.
Thats it. Rebounding off the bench might take a hit, but trust me, Collins and Dmap aren't exactly going Rodman out there either.

Re: Bringing on JJ Hickson
Sadly don't expect anything from the team, they'd have to both cut a player and sign Hickson (or anyone else) meaning the entire amount of their salary (1 month?) would cost double. They just traded a pick to handle the cost of Dampier's luxury tax charge, so spending regardless of it making sense is a long shot.

Re: Bringing on JJ Hickson
Too late, the reports are he's signing with the Warriors. Boris Diaw just got released as well. Not necessarily advocating him, but he's big and can pass.

The Warriors are a good fit for Hickson. I think he'll do fine in their offense and it's going to be fun watching him play (Love for basketball, some of you could probably careless).
My problem with our situation right now, is that talent is available, but we won't or are unable to pursue it.

Hickson is now going to POR, they claimed him from waivers.
