I am getting worried about our draft pick, we do need one big , hopefully we don't win too much games.

At this stage of the game, isn't that point to start DEVELOPING all our young talent that we've already gotten through numerous drafts? You don't mold them into the type of players you want them to be by DELIBERATELY losing game just because we won't be making the playoffs. We have to get them playing together on the same page with each other at some point. Random draft picks aren't going to speed the process up by a significant level. And lets not forget that a boring, losing team does NOT generate support for a new arena. Winning does. Look at the big picture for once...

Dammit, why does it seem like that the last 2 years we've been really improving towards the end of the season, but then struggle again when the next season starts?

OKC developed Westbrook & Durant just fine in the season that they lost enough to secure themselves Harden.

You don't mold them into the type of players you want them to be by DELIBERATELY losing game just because we won't be making the playoffs. The big picture is winning a championship. Without another star level player this team and assuming REALISTIC progress from our young guys, this team isn't going to have the talent to be a championship team.

Since we're never going to attract a star through free agency and trading for one is nearly as unlikely, we need to get one via the draft. Sadly, the quality of talent in the draft tends to drop off exponentially the lower you get in the draft. Top 5? You have a 50% chance (or thereabouts) of getting a star caliber player. But by 11-15? You're lucky to get a starter.


Remember what happened last year? The Kings finished the year winning 8 of their last 15 and dropped to the 6th pick in the draft after losing a coin flip to the Nets. Win one less game and we're in a coin flip for the 4th spot. One less? coinflip for the 3rd spot. And one more? Outright 3rd spot.

Or let's go back to the 2006-2007 season. Portland moved up to #1 with 32 wins. The Kings? We had 33.

We all want our young guys to play well but we're also concerned with the bigger picture: getting talent to make a run at a championship.

I think we have to keep in mind how difficult our April schedule is:

Thunder three times, Clippers twice, Spurs, Lakers, a back-to-back with the T-Wolves and Suns who are vying for the 8th seed. Things could go sour in a hurry, and I think it's possible we get any pick this year. We could easily wind up with the 4th worst record and land Davis somehow. On the other hand, we could also continue this streak and just kick butt all the way out of the single-digit picks. But to me, it's a win-win. I love to see us win games and don't think we necessarily need a high pick to be successful next year--just a FA pickup or two and/or a trade or two.

Yeah, I mean it's basically the same that it's been all year. Wins and losses don't matter as much as the team playing well. I just don't want any more blowout losses.
