Okur waived by Blazers

Post#1 » by seejaydeja » Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:45 am

League source confirms report from @sam_amick : #Blazers claim J.J. Hickson off waivers. Will waive Mehmet Okur to make room on roster.

Feel bad for this guy. Went into this season in a city he apparently loved, got sent across the country, only to be sent back a few months later and subsequently cut from that team.

Is this the end of Okur's NBA career? I really hope he ends up somewhere...

I'm sure a team out there will pick him up, he could still be valuable on a playoff team who need a decent bench big.

The problem is... I am not so sure he is decent anymore. I will admit that I haven't followed him since he left.

He will always be one of my favorite Jazz players.

He hasn't played a game since 1/25
Not sure if he's injured or not.

7.6 PPG 4.8 RPG 1.8 APG IN 26 MPG in the games he played this season.

37 % FG
31 % 3PFG

Seems like he's still somewhat serviceable..

Just go through the rosters of teams and look at their bench bigs... there is certainly a place for him on a team. Hell, I bet Miami would take him over Eddy Curry...

Also, I wouldn't be totally opposed to signing him on the cheap. Strictly as a big man coach and mentor to Kanter, but I think he'd be worth the money.... and well, he kinda deserves as much from us if you believe in that sort of thing.

I always liked Memo. I have MANY fond memories of him draining 3s for us. I wish him nothing but the best in his future.

I wouldn't mind us signing Okur for the rest of the season to help Kanter along - not sure I want to see him play, though. I could see him ending up somewhere like San Antonio who's in the hunt and could use a bit more depth. Phoenix would be a fun spot, just imagine if they had this lineup when all the players were in their primes (or near).

Yeah, what's up with Fesenko anyway? I remember hearing plenty of rumors about him earlier in the season but he didn't end up anywhere. Is he hurt? Is he still waiting? I can't believe no one picked him up.

About Memo, love the guy but even if I didn't watch him a lot with the Nets, when I did it didn't look good. He's probably better off going back home to spend the remainder of his career, I'm not sure he could really be a contributor in a contending team.

I think that we should sign Memo if no one will reach out for him, ok sentiments wont win you games but Memo is truly a Jazzman and he should end his NBA career in Utah

I have a feeling some of the issues with Fess is the guy doesn't have a drivers license and is still pretty raw in his development. Not only would Fess not command much money, but then the team has to find a driver for the kid.

I would definitely pick him up as the 12th man...... He knows the plays, and he's a great teammate......

I would love to pick up Memo as a 12th man as well, but I don't think he'd go for that role at this point. I see him going back to Turkey.

Enes has been in the USA for a while but it can still be difficult. Okur could help ease Enes transition into both NBA and the USA for sure.

I think he will rest to the end of this season and will sign with a team in Turkey next year.

He already did

European guys just really don't know the game as deeply as USA made players playing their whole lifes and getting coached from the time they could walk. Memo seems to just be learning the fundamentals to me, how is he suppose to teach a rookie.

I wish him luck, and if the Jazz sign him its for his perimeter shooting. The Jazz still need help on the ...Three baby!
