Not surprising at all.

As much as I like Chipper it's the best thing for the organization. I hope he stays involved with the organization once he retires.

DOB just posted:

Braves and Chipper have discussed him re-joining the organization in some other capacity after 2012

Also, there's a press conference scheduled for 11:30 today. Not sure where it will be carried, although I would assume they would air it on the Braves website.

Damn, I am just now finding out about a PC, its 2:40 ET. I kind of expected Chipper to retire after this yr. I know he would like to be a hitting coach for the Braves one day. Can't see them getting rid of Walker after one season. Maybe they start Chipper out in the Minors as hitting coach. :dontknow:

Chipper said during the press conference that he was going to take next year off for sure, to spend with his family. He owed that to them. Then he said "in the near future, I could see myself doing something with the Braves" so I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in a year or two after retirement.

Great career. Kinda wish he had bowed out a year ago. When great players start to get old, it is so hard for them to see that their skills diminish. But at least he sees it now enough to call this year his last. I really hope he has a strong bounce back season to conclude his HOF career. I look forward to whatever part he may play in the organization in the future.

I was listening to AM 680 the fan last week and they're acting as it's going to be a huge rebuilding period for us once Chipper retires..lol

The move that makes the most sense is Prado to 3rd if our young talent isn't ready.

All the best to Chipper, I too hope he remains with the organisation beyond retirement
