Charlotte with Biyombo and Davis would be interesting...

i think the blazers should draft BPA regardless the need at both spots. right now, with out taking into account the lottery re-ordering the nets and bazars sit at 4th and 10th respectively. the nets likely won't move much and the blazers will likely drop a few more spots as they plummet from contention. of course, standings and prospect values will change but, at the moment, i'd like to see the blazers nab Beal (an NBA ready prospect at the 2) and then whichever of Drummond and Sullinger are available next (preferably but less likely Drummond) to pair w/ aldridge and let LA play primarily the 4. next, i would like to see the blazers center a package around 'matthews/late picks/cash/taking back a negative contract' to grab another lower lottery pick and nab Marshall to be our PG. extend batum and make a run at asik and pick up veteran back up PG and the there it is...

Marshall
Beal
Batum
Aldridge
Sullinger

3 rookie starters, Aldridge and Batum. That makes no sense at all to me, and in that situation, you might as well move Aldridge. You worry about someone else not wanting to extend here, and then you're going to tell your best player hey, sit tight while we waste your prime by starting 3! rookies next to you. I just don't see that happening AT ALL. So you might as well see if you can nab the #1 for Aldridge, and start 4! rookies. And then we can all sit around and talk about how we have a team of 20 year olds so dominant, that will all grow and mature together, and we'll see if it will work a second time. But soon, one of them will fetch a lotto pick, and we might as well, lest we be accused of waiting to long to move one of them.

i said i wouldn't be opposed to a trade for a vet but that i doubt the vet the blazers would be able to acquire would make them contenders. i don't think they need to move aldridge but they might have to consider it before they continue to bring in middle of the road vets and never make it past the first rd. we wouldn't start 3 vets off the bat but, ya they would be apart of the core going forward. i think these particular prospects may surprise you and not be the long term raw projects you seem to expect.

the blazers will likely not contend for a championship next season but with this trade i think they would be contending by the very next year. passing off two lottery picks in a deep draft, might send this team back another decade considering what they already have been through the past 3-4 yrs.

Portland with 21 wins is two games behind GS for the ninth spot in the lottery.
Charlotte with 7 wins has a death grip on the first spot and will have a 25%
chance at winning the lottery and Anthony Davis. There is logjam of teams
with 15-17 wins but I think Portland can catch Sacramento, GS and Detroit
to finish 7th. The last time we had the 7 hole, we won the lottery.

right now, it's hard to keep track of teams tanking because there seem to be so many of them

But NJ is certainly setting the standard. In the last 3 games, they've lost to the 2nd, 3rd, and 8th worst teams in the league by an average of 11 points a game. And those game were home games for NJ. They may catch Washington and New Orleans at this rate

Getting ugly in NJ. Deron looked like he wanted to kill someone tonight. I don't think there is a chance in the world he re-signs there with the way this has played out for them.

NJ's epic tanking is making me thing they'll definitely end up with the 2nd worst record. The wizards got better with Nene.

They're going to screw up the plan. My only hope is that the lottery gods punish their tanking by having other teams knock them out of the top 3. If they really wanted to send a message, Portland would be one of those teams!

it's possible that Washington will end up with a better record, but I'd doubt the Hornets will. They have a real difficult remaining schedule, and both Okafor and Landry are injured right now

even if the Nets finish 2nd, pre-lottery, Portland has about 43% chance of getting the pick, with a 32% chance it's the 4th pick

If the Nets finish 3rd, pre-lottery, Portland has about a 53% chance of getting the pick

Those aren't great odds but they also aren't bad

Yeah I guess catching the Hornets will be hard but I do think they'll swap places with Washington.

50/50 odds......geez, the draft lottery is going to be the most exciting part of the season. NJ's upcoming schedule is supposedly easy but they seem to be up to the challenge of losing to everyone. Anyone know when/if Brook Lopez is coming back? I'd assume they'll shut him down officially soon.

Hopefully we can lose our way into the 9th spot but I doubt the Warriors will let us.

The guys at Basketball Prospectus crunched the numbers on the percentages of picks changing hands due to trades. Here's the percentage they gave to the Nets pick coming to Portland....

73.7% - New Jersey to Portland
SCHOENE sees a Nets team with Gerald Wallace winning enough down the stretch to likely knock their pick out of the top three. That's exactly what the Blazers are hoping for, so they can get the selection they acquired in the Wallace deal this year. The most likely outcome has this pick landing somewhere from 5-7, which would allow Portland to add a promising talent.

http://www.basketballprospectus.com/art ... cleid=2168

They also provide a chart of the lottery odds and such.

FWI, the SCHOENE is their program that runs the numbers and estimates where the teams will end up at the end of the year.

and the Blazers put the cherry on top by winning tonight

still, it was an enjoyable game to watch. And just like the Chicago game, The Blazers were able to win by hitting double-digits in made 3-pointers.

If that's the formula required for Portland to win games, I doubt they will win many more.

Man the Nets (15-34) are crazy bad. They actually went into the 3rd with a decent lead (for the Nets), but piddled it down their leg in the 4th to lose.

In other lottery teams of note news, Toronto (16-32) beat NY tonight, Detroit (16-31) lost to Miami.

I have to imagine the Nets get that win. Charlotte makes the Nets look like the Globetrotters.

Big logjam of teams of teams with 16-19 wins but NJ if they want to finish in
the top 3 can't afford to win one game if they have any hope of catching
the Bobcats, Hornets and Wizards.

Nets win!!!!

Probably a good thing for we don't want the Nets to have too many ping pong balls.
Better to have them finish in 5-8.
