Rumor: Miami to pursue Ray Allen this summer

Post#1 » by Woolyy » Thu Mar 22, 2012 8:54 pm

According to Yahoo! Miami is going to try and sign Ray Allen this offseason. Thoughts?

I'd post a link but my iPhone is being super slow. Props to anyone who shares one.

Very small part of the article, but here it is:

Allen’s free-agent options are up in the air. The Miami Heat are expected to make a strong run at signing him this summer, one league source said.

Gotta love the clowns on the GB who say we really don't care about getting a Center. As if there are dozens of C's out there that we could have gotten/get with our limited money. I'd love to see Riley slap some of these dudes upside the head.

The mini-MLE/vet min won't be enough though. Could we possibly amnesty Miller or something to make it happen?

Imagine having to defend Wade and then Ray comes in. Good luck with that.

Minutes aren't a big issue since we can always play Wade/LeBron out of their traditional positions.

Hopefully MM gets traded or something if we can get Allen, dude has another 3 years in him for sure.

It'd be amazing, but I really dont see him going ring chasing and coming to Miami. But man would that be nasty. LeBron/Wade/Miller/Allen/Bosh. Who do you double hahaha.

I would love him here, though I don't see it happening. The fact that we are already looking into shooting guard back ups before the post season, no where near the offseason, tells me that Miller will be gone this Summer.

Allen would set an NBA record for most 3's made in a season if he played on this team.

^Exactly. If only Rio, Battier & Miller would take advantage.

We have nothing to give a team that would let us salary dump Miller onto another team.

There is no way they would do that. Randolph is an expiring contract. We would have to throw in two first round picks (since our firsts are late)

even Jones 43%

You really can't expect much better 3pt shooting overall than what we have been getting. If you take out the chucking of Wade/Bosh/Cole we're probably the best shooting team in the league by a lot.

Um... he's shooting a career high 50.4% from the field this season, his TS% is 13th among SGs (60th overall).
Bosh is also shooting slightly better than his career average...

I wouldn't exactly call that chucking...

Oh, and we are the best shooting team in the league - 1st in FG% & tied for 2nd in 3pt% (& 7th in FT%). :)

Wade's chucking 3's though (inb4 he only tries 1-2 a game), and is shooting .194% from 3. He is once again, taking bad 3's. Untimely too. I have always hated Wade taking 3's, he's a 29% 3 point shooter. Only when he's absolutely hot, he makes many 3's. But other than that, he has even missed wide open 3's.

LeBron and Wade missing 3's is what cost us Game 2 of the Finals(besides giving up 3's and choking), they need to stay in the post or something. Or draw fouls.

Also, I mean I like Ray Allen, but once again, going after a vet and Ray Allen's defense is bad. Yes, he'd shoot so many 3's and won't hesitate like Miller, Battier, etc (If Miller sucks in the playoffs, trade or amnesty this fool).

I mean he would be good off the bench... but Miller and Battier already come out to be the back up SG. Unless they like Battier at the end of games, rather than Miller.

Guess they would rather develop Pittman or Curry over the summer than to pay for one. Ugh.

We were talking about 3pt shooting. I specifically said 3pt shooting in that post you quoted.

Wade, Bosh and Cole have all taken more 3s than they should have.

Not sure what kind of center you are expecting with the mini-mle again next summer. If you can get Ray Allen for it, its probably better than any center you are going to get (Kwame got double that this offseason) unless you get extremely lucky

Of course Ray Allen is a pipe dream just like Nene/Chandler/Dalembert were last offseason.

Also no one is trading for Miller. If we amnesty him, I'll be pissed we didn't do it this season when it would have helped. We would have had the full MLE this season, next year it won't matter
