Payton was one of our top choices for HC, and was considered by many to be the frontrunner, in 2006 when we decided to go with McCarthy.

We vigorously went after Greg Williams for DC in 2009 before he decided to go to New Orleans and we went with Capers.

In an alternative world, this could be the Packers.

If we were in their position right now, there would be heads rolling. Payton would be fired, as would any other coach that may have been connected.

And Forte is pissed. "There's only so many times a man that has done everything he's been asked to do can be disrespected!" read a post on Forte's Twitter account. "Guess the GOOD GUYS do finish last ..." http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/ ... te-unhappy
Hopefully he ends up leaving there he is a hell of a talent that I'd love to see off the Bears. Imagine him in a Packers uniform? Not many backs would be a better fit for our offense.

I remember when I said I thought Forte was a top 3 RB and everyone ripped on me.

I love that guy, he is like my ideal RB.

Yeah, he is pretty much the perfect back for us. It would be funny if he decided to leave and sign with us in a favre-esque revenge move.

He is definitely top 5, not sure about top 3. Maybe though.

No one was fired when the Packers had a bounty system against Adrian Peterson.

The Packers' "bounty" system from a few years back was all stats-based (that we know of). Get a sack, you got $100 from the pool of defensive players. Hold Peterson under 100 yards and the DBs paid the front 7 or something like that.

They got slapped on the wrist but no harsh penalties.

Is there something missing from when they tweaked Peterson's knee a few years back?

Well Jeff Saturday is deciding between the Packers and Broncos. We have the better offer on the table but the lure of Payton is strong.

Shefter:

Former Colts C Jeff Saturday is close to agreeing to a deal with the Packers. "Not done, but very likely," said source familiar with deal.

I really like this idea, so long as we draft a young C to develop for a year or two while Saturday is still a solid starter.

Yeah, I'd be comfortable with Saturday. Glad the lure of the best team in football is greater than the lure of a dubiously healthy Manning,

This. Interested to see how the money compares with wells (suppose I wouldn't mind if the first year salaries were all that similar). Also, unless Konz is the absolute BPA (which very well could happen and would then lead to an interesting debate of Konz vs. Saturday), I don't see him being as much of a possibility as I had prior.

We have our center.

And now, former Colts C Jeff Saturday officially has agreed to a deal with the Green Bay Packers. Nice Packers pickup.

I'd go elsewhere with our 1st or 2nd now.

Yeah, I like the signing, replaced Wells with an adequate player. Unless Kontz is the absolute best player by a longshot, I go somewhere else. Lets go Pack!

Great signing. This allows the Packers to draft defensive line in the first round. I'd look for a young center to groom in later rounds like Philip Blake or Michael Brewster.

I wouldn't exactly say I'm excited about this (Saturday is getting pretty old, he'll be 37), but at least we know he's not going to make a fool out of himself out there and we won't necessarily be pressured to throw a rookie into the fire.

I'd still be up for drafting someone like David Molk to develop for the future.

Jeff Saturday is a really smart player and a good guy from what I've heard. Assuming he can hold up physically, it's a great signing.
