What is heat fans view on Joel Anthony? Is his contract worth it?

Not even close to being worth it, but oh well. Not much else we could of gotten, if we didn't sign him we'd have no centers right now. But we might of been able to use our MLE this past summer.

dude get's paid too much to roam around the court and block shots.
I like the guy, but he's not a Center, his hands are crap, bad offensive IQ basically.
I like him off the bench for like 15 minutes and he's a high energy guy. His pick and roll defense is what makes this team different from other teams. However, he sucks protecting the rim if he has a mismatch, but he is a good shotblocker.
But I mean, I wouldn't pay him like 3mil this team is paying him, but I think if he was next to an offensive minded Center who is also good defensively, he'd be great next to that guy.
I just hate him at Center, he looks like midget compared to all the other Center's. There's no way he's 6'9.
I don't like when it's 4vs5 either on the offensive end, more pressure on Wade and LBJ, especially at the beginning of games. Smart teams take advantage of that.

Re: Joel Anthony
Yea, his contract is worth it. He is an amazing center who is the centerpiece of the Heat's defense with his rebounding, post defense, and shot blocking intimidation. He has made amazing strides with his offense, and started to display an arsenal of Hakeem like movies as his hands have morphed from those of stone to those of velcro. Your team should totally trade for him, but expect to have to give up a lot due to Joel being Mutumbo reborn on defense while silently morphing into one of the most reliable post scoring threats in the league. However, the Heat would be highly reluctant to trade him due to him being grossly underpaid for the production he provides.

Very underappreciated player by some fans. He literally does all of the little things, and has improved his offensive game from hilariously inept, to efficient within reason. Seems like he always makes that little jump hook, and he's dunking the ball this year. Catching passes a lot better. Makes clutch free throws.
And then defensively, after Lebron our best defensive player. No one rotates harder, covers up more mistakes, or shows more aggressively on the pick and roll.
He's worth every penny of his contract to us. I don't know if he'd be worth that much to another team that played a different system, but he is pretty much as pure a Miami Heat product as you can get.

Under-appreciated player fans forget how affective he was against Rose in the playoffs and we'll need to go through Rose again to reach the Finals.

Re: Joel Anthony
Great value at 3.5 mil. Ideally-suited to coming off the bench, probably at PF (where he's actually a decent rebounder), but does yeoman's work as an undersized starter at C even if he often gets overwhelmed on the glass. He covers more ground defensively than probably 90% of the bigs in the league, and especially in today's guard-centric league, that's probably the most important skill a big can have defensively. He's the best PnR defender on our team, and probably one of the best in the league. Ironically, blocking shots has become in my eyes one of his least important defensive skills - he does his best work preventing people from even getting the ball into the lane. Though the stuff he does once they get into the lane is pretty great too.
He's not great offensively in the least, but people on this board also way underrate what does bring to the table offensively, which is great offensive rebounding and great screen setting. Considering how PnR dependent (and effective!) Wade and Lebron are, and considering how high an eFG% and TS% Miami has, the value of those second shots and great screens is actually very high.

Yeah, some fans just hate on this dude but I really appreciate everything Joel does. What a cool nice guy.
What I wish is he can catch the ball better and get some more putbacks out there, but I guess that's just a pipedream at this point.

I like Joel. I think he is worth it. Doesn't mean we can't have better, but it feels like if he sucked completely on defense but scored a few ore points people would like him more which is silly. He has a role and he plays it well.

Re: Joel Anthony
A lot of fans hate him but he's a lot better than they think.
He's an *elite* defensive player and our offense still works with him out there because he doesn't take bad shots or waste possessions. Before we got Turiaf I thought he should have been playing more minutes.
He's probably overpaid because he is limited and plays less than half the game (again I thought he should have been playing more) but the thing is his contract hasn't kept us from getting anyone else. When we gave it to him he was the only person we could give the money to. Then this offseason amnestying him wouldn't have helped us in anyway.
So a little overpaid because he isn't played enough but it doesn't matter because his contract hasn't hindered us in any way. It would literally be Joel or a minimum salary center.

Re: Joel Anthony
He's not overpaid.
He's a decent team defender. but not "elite" as Perkins and Ibaka showed yesterday.
Simply the best we've got and his pay is far more reasonable than 70% (or more) of the Centers in the NBA

HE. CAN'T. EVEN. HOLD. THE. BALL.
That's the most annoying thing about him.

Remember that one stupid turnover pass from Bosh? smh...I almost lost it.
We're almost unbeatable when he's playing well. When he's not, he's the most annoying player to watch(apart from Rio).
