Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 8
If Quincy Miller declares, then I hope the Raptors pick him with a second first rounder. But I think it's in his favour to return to Baylor, continue working on his game and upper body strength, and improve his draft stock. He'll be projected to go higher likely top 5 than he is now in the mid-lotto to late-first. He's got Isaiah Austin to work with next year, so it won't be that bad.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

I agree. Dude's got a LOT of work to do. But I still think he'll be something special. Yeah he'd be much better served by going back to school.

MKG is sounding real good right now. Only question I have is whether his handle & first step is good enough in the NBA.

I'd still take Barnes over MKG. I just don't see anything special about MKG. College perimeter defense doesn't usually translate to the NBA.

This tank is stressing me out....
If we miss out on Davis, Beal, MKG, Lamb, Barnes, Robinson or Drummond I'll be pissed we
still got several winnable games left....
After DeRozan breaks Alvin Williams record he needs to be shut down and Bargnani and JJ
need to come down with some serious injuries.

you want Robinson?
we're in good position to get one of the wings and Colangelo isn't doing his utmost, I'm confident we get ourselves a player.

Robinson would be last on my list of that 7 but he is in that tier.
NJ, DET, SAC, CLE, GS are all on our ass
If we have to pick between Sullinger, P Jones, Lillard, Henson, Rivers, Marshall, Moultrie,
Zeller, Leonard I'll be pissed.
We deserve to pick in the top 5 of tier 1
We still got 5 or 6 winnable games against fellow tankers $hits about to get real soon fast

I'm looking forward to the lottery... that will ultimately decide way we do with out pick. If we lag within anything from 6-8 I think BC's going to look to trade it, along with someone else, for a legit starter.

I agree. I don't see anything that special about MKG. Sure he's filling up the stats sheet and he's a great person but in terms of skillset, I don't see anything that blows me away except his defense. He reminds me a bit of DeRozan (offensively)...like he's the guy that the Raps were trying to sell us that DeMar was. From what I see, he's a great slasher and gets to the line frequently. But his offensive game is what worries me. He can't really shoot it (from midrange or 3 point land), has a decent handle but nothing that would get him space in the NBA and appears to get a most of his offense from "garbage points" (i.e putbacks, rebounds, broken plays) and transition. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I see. I think he'll be a great rebounder and defender in the NBA though...he could be Iggy but then again he could also be James Johnson.

Well IMO this draft is a good one. I wouldn't be discussing moving the pick until draft day at the earliest unless a team approaches me with a blow-my-mind type deal. Because you never can tell what's going to happen on draft night. Maybe someone goes higher leaving your man on the board later than expected (which is good) or whatever. Or maybe a team higher than us likes the same guy we do and is willing to take him higher than expected..who knows? But I 'd look at trading the pick if Davis, Drummond, Beal, Barnes and Lamb are all off the board or Lamb is projected late lotto and we have #7 or something. Maybe a team would give us some assets for moving down like a piece for the future or something...

If MKG fills out properly in the weight room, he has a chance to be every bit as good as Ron Artest was in his prime (without the problems).
The raps desperately need a leader and this is the guy. Im 100 percent sold on him.

Re: Official Raptors 2012 NBA Draft Thread, Part 8
When I watch MKG I still think I'm looking at a smaller James Johnson. It's all hustle, defense and garbage points. His lack of range is a concern to me because I don't think he will be able to get inside very well in the NBA and I he doesn't have the long range game to compensate. Maybe he develops, but right now he doesn't have it.

I like TJones when he's at his best, but I think he's too similar to James Johnson for the Raps to make a play for him.

Perfect example of a guy that had a poor tournament showing in his draft year. I think there's a lesson to be learned that one should consider a player's entire body of work.

Miller could end up better than Barnes and Gilchrist if he puts in the work.

definitely. especially if his explosiveness returns to where it was pre-injury.
