Draft thread...not sure about picks but wth?

Post#1 » by jwise44 » Sat Mar 24, 2012 6:35 pm

Figured we could use one since march madness is going on...could have 3 firsts, could have 0. I think we will have 2, nyks and Dallas both 16 and above

Prospects I like:
Davis(ku)
Zeller(unc or Indiana)
Mkg(ku will be better with another year under his belt but too talented)
Beal(uf just like watching him)
Lamb(uconn high ceiling but high floor IMO)
Kendall marshall(unc favorite college player hate his injury. Can't shoot but amazing vision!!!)
Leonard(Illinois bust potential but I like)
Moultrie?(msu take him over Robinson anyway )R
Draymond green(ms)2 round
After last nights game I would take number 1 from Indiana in the second round haha he's crazy!!

Prospects I hate
Thomas Robinson(ku)I think i just dont like him/no midrange game
PjIII(BU bust so bad doesn't care about basketball watching him this tourney is sad)
Quincey miller(bu needs another year)

Prospects that are meh
Terrance jones(uk tweener high bust low ceiling)
Harrison Barnes(unc good shooter good size like him but have a bad feeling)
Sullinger(osu sorry z3 but he's undersized and doesn't wow me. Rather keep patty p and roll with d-mo)

Didn't watch many games this year till late February so people with actual knowledge enlighten me

It sounds like with the Tourney going on Morey is spending more time scouting the international scene.

Davis - lol, he's #1 prospect in the country
Zeller - too skinny imo, going to be project to play center in nba
Kidd-Gilchrist - look like most nba-ready player in this year top prospect
Lamb - too bad UConn got knock out too quick, didn't watch him enough this year
Terrence Jones - remind me of Tim Thomas for some reason

Fab Melo anyone? 7'0, 255lbs, 2.9 blocks per game. Had 10 blocks vs Seton Hall with 8 in the first half. Would be a good project to learn under Camby and Dalembert.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Great thread idea wise, I was gonna make one of these.

At first I was unsure on Robinson but that guy is a work horse, and he has good work effort kinda guy you love to cheer for, body already NBA ready, but does he really have a position?

PJ3 scares the hell out of me mentally weak he has bust written all over him but I could see us draft him because he might fall to our NY pick.

Harrison Barnes... i still don't see it, from him... looks average to me.

This is what I want all you guys to do... watch OSU v Orange game right now before Rockets..

Sullinger is like a bigger Hayes, Parsons this year made me a believe in guys with great anticipation.
Sullinger has it, always gets in the right spot for rebound put back whatever.
Great passer and has post moves.

If we can get Fab Melo with a 2nd round pick sure... but he has character issues, suspended twice this year.

June is gonna be exciting so many good players and we have 4 picks... 5 if we miss po.

I don't know why you hate Robinson, I think he's clearly the best pf in college basketball right now but I'm really not 100% sold on ANY of the pf's in the draft. I don't like Sullinger either, mainly because his athleticism worries me. If he is successful he will have to play like boozer or al jefferson which means his mid-range game will have to develop and he's going to be a defensive liability. Anyways I like a lot of the same prospects but most of them won't be available when we pick, prospects I do like that could be available are, before I get into I just want to throw it out there that I want to draft a player that has a lot of potential. We've done the "sure thing" enough and it's worked out well but now we need a player with a high ceiling:

*Moe Harkless: 7-2 wingspan and he has a lot of potential/athleticism. St. Johns wasn't that good this year but he was a standout, another year and he'd probably be a lottery pick.

*Kendall Marshall: I'd love it if he fell to us and we could develop him under lowry(especially since dragic will probably be gone). He's the best passer I've seen in college basketball in a while and I think he will learn how to score despite his lack of a jump shot kind of like andre miller.

*Jeff Taylor- keeps improving and he has a nice overall game

Prospects I like but they have high ceiling/bust potential:

*Austin Rivers: coming out to early, don't know if he'll play pg/sg but he has a lot of potential

*John Henson: I just don't know if his offense will ever catch up and if he will get stronger but he's a gem on defense

*Perry Jones III: some games he looks like a top 5 pick, some games he looks like a wasted talent, I'd love to draft him though

Draymond Green: If he can defend the 3 he'll be a steal(basically like Marcus Morris) and you have to love his personality/love for the game.

Meyers Leonard
Players I hate:

*Terrance Jones: Poor mans josh smith with a worse attitude. It's sad that kidd-gilchrist was able to come in and be a better player/leader than jones @ 18

*Sullinger: talked about him already

Mason Plumlee: I'm PRAYING we don't take him based on a good workout. All athleticism besides that he's trash

I would LOVE to have anthony davis(who wouldn't), jeremy lamb or brad beal but we won't get a high enough pick for that.

Other than the Gerald Green (?) and Twitter fliers (both of whom were basically free, but I can't remember if Morey was involved with Green's pickup), who has Morey ever picked based on athleticism?
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?

I know morey was w/ the celtics when green got drafted but he wasn't the gm was he? Anyways he hasn't recently but thats because he went for the best player available/sure thing. We have always been low enough in the draft where we won't get the players with the most potential but high enough to draft the "solid college players". I don't think he should go STRICTLY off of athleticism but I do think we need to draft a player with a lot of potential...

Rocketseagles- I think I don't like Robinson the person not the player haha for some reason I just hate that guy. I think he is the most solid player in the draft. I'm sure if we somehow got him(even though we don't need him) I would like him

I got you.... Do you think we end up taking the best player available again>? I mean the best options will be sf/pf's when we pick.

We already have one Kansas Jayhawk we don't know what to do with. Where would Robinson get playing time here with Scola and Patterson? If he were taller and could play some center maybe but he's barely 6'8".

Morey traded Kirk Snyder to Minny for Gerald Green at the trade deadline in his second year as GM.

He wasn't a Morey draft pick, just a D-League call up.

For those who say Thomas Robinson doesn't have a midrange game, you are not looking hard enough.
He was hitting mid range jumpers all over the place before conference play. He's got 15 feet.

He has handles for his size and most of his turnovers come from not getting rid of the ball quick enough from being triple teamed. I don't freak out anywhere near as much when he has the ball at the
three point line versus Tyshawn Taylor having the ball at the three point line. I've watched a lot of Jayhawk ball over the last 15 years and I've got to say Tyshawn Taylor is the most consistently inconsistent basketball enigma I have ever seen. For every extremely good play, it will be followed by a painfully dumb play within 3 possessions.

We don't want Thomas Robinson because we don't need another power forward. We've got three already on the roster _now_, with another coming over from overseas next year.
3) We don't need another point guard. We have three and they are all really good.
4) We don't need another center. Unless Camby retires, we have two.
5) We need small forwards that are two way players. Chandler Parsons comes close but needs to work on free throws.
6) We need a shooting guard that is a two way player too. Courtney Lee counts when he is scoring and doesn't otherwise. Kevin Martin doesn't. Period.

We have a good core. Including D-Mo, we have a roster of 12.

It would be nice if we could get someone like Kidd GIlchrist, but we can try the following:
Darius Johnson-Odom, Marquette. (second round)
Will Buford, Ohio State. (late first round)
Shabazz Napier (if he's coming out... He shouldn't), UConn
Doron Lamb (Lottery probably)

If we can't keep Dragic, we should give Tu Holloway (Late first round) from Xavier a go. If we need a three point specialist, I'd give Marcus Denmon from Missouri a try out as well.
