C'mon, there were two rounds left, but there was no way Kirkland was coming back. It's one thing to tell Kirkland that as a gesture but to argue that he was comign back? Some people seem to be doing that. Ugh. That KD was totally inconsequential.

Hopefully, Molina at least gets a serious payday out of this.

Who is Kirkland's 2nd, the guy jumping around and overjoyed by the corner stepping on the skirt? I don't know if the ref would have ended it had it not been for him. You just won a prize fight by accounting error. Sit down, bitch.

Kirkland is pretty disappointing, I thought he would dominate Molina.

Still, Molina was doing a lot of illegal holding and clutching all night without even a warning from the ref.

sorta illegal...but there was no 'holding & hitting', nothing truly dirty. and he wasn't outright grappling him. he was moving in, smothering, and moving back out. it was action. Kirkland's corner seemed to respect it, in fact. :lol:

he did have a couple defensive back-styled shoulder hits. at one point, he had him in the corner and launched himself behind his shoulder into Kirkland. that was definitely a foul.

Molina fought a smart fight that gave him the best chance to win. I don't like that he held and smothered a lot, it can make for unattractive fights, but that's part of the game. If he doesn't do it then Kirkland has a huge advantage and likely knocks him out. Molina was winning the fight but he was starting to tire as the fight wore on. Round 10 wasn't a good round for him for sure.

As for the DQ, I'm somewhere in between. By rule, it is a DQ but I think anyone hates to see a fight end like that. Still, Molina's corner has to know that their fighter was knocked down and a count was still going on. Watching the live broadcast, I was aware of what was going on even though the HBO team themselves seemed quite confused.

But it wasn't even a clean KD. The strike was as much a push as anything and he half-fell over Kirkland's leg. The cutman may not have figured there'd be a count. When it happens immediately at the bell...that's a tough one. The bell goes, the cutman's instincts are to jump on the apron. Event staff, AC staff...someone else has to have the guy leashed.

Another "believe it until I see it" fight but rumor from RING is that Chavez Jr.'s team wants Martinez in September or in the fall.

Saw the Top Rank PPV tonight. Missed the first fight but saw the other 3. My thoughts:

- Herrera/Alvarado was fight of the night and one of the best fights this year. Non-stop action throughout the 10 rounds. Alvarado is becoming one of my favorite fighters to watch, he just comes forward and brings it. Herrera took a lot of punishment, both eyes were quite swollen by the end of the fight(especially the left), but he never stopped throwing leather and tried the best he could to thwart Alvarado's attack. He's got some skill and won some rounds but Alvarado clearly didn't respect his power. I had Alvarado winning by 4 rounds, just overpowered him. Great effort by both fighters.

- Rios/Abril was...well....BS. There are no other words to describe that decision for Rios. The one judge that had it 117-111 for Abril was spot on. Rios lost that fight handily and looked like he had no plan B, clearly outboxed. I don't know if he took Abril lightly but I've never seen Rios look this bad. There were rounds where he didn't do anything. Nothing. He looked like ****. Abril is a tall, lanky, tricky type of fighter. He doesn't have much power but his movements defensively confused the hell out of Rios. The Marquez fight in July is all but set for Dallas. Can't help but think it will be a fun, slightly one-sided win for Dinamita, sort of like his fight with Katsidis IMO. Rios just isn't a world class fighter and that will tell in July.

- Marquez/Fedchenko was a solid performance for Marquez. Fedchenko held his own but he was clearly no threat to Marquez. It took a while for Marquez to get it going, likely had trouble getting himself into an extra gear against a guy like Fedchenko. By the middle rounds, he showed his form though. Crisp body punching and combinations. Landed some excellent uppercuts. He wanted to finish the fight late but Fedchenko just wouldn't go down. I have no doubt in my mind that Marquez can win against Rios. It could be tough early but in the end, he'll figure him out and break him down, possibly late stoppage.

Mares was quite impressive and it's not like Morel was bad or anything, he landed some good counters himself but Mares was more active and landed the much harder shots.

A lot of rumors about Mares possibly facing Moreno and Donaire later on. Hope TR/GB can put BS aside to make it happen with Donaire, before he moves up to 126. That would be an explosive fight. Likely wishful thinking though...

I think that Donaire has this aura about him being unbeatable. I see a guy who might just be great because he can physically overwhelm people due to him being massive for his weight class.

I don't think Mares is on Donaire physical level, but if he half asses it, I can see Mares imposing his will and eeking a decision.

Bernard Hopkins vs Chad Dawson for Hopkins' world light heavyweight title on HBO from Atlantic City, NJ. I'll take Hopkins by decision, I just don't trust Dawson to put it all together, which he will need to do to win this fight.
