Don't know. All this silence is starting to bug me, though.

His back is starting to worry me. Isn't this the same injury that kept him out of the playoffs last year?
We need to start looking for an insurance PF that can provide some offense.

You have been shockingly reasonable and level-headed the last few weeks. What happened? :D

My guesses:

1. He got married.
2. He got divorced.
3. He won lotto.
4. He's getting some.
5. He just found out that he's the long lost heir to an aristocrasy in India.

Didn't mention this to @RealMichaelKay, but another option is signing a vet. Rasheed Wallace anyone? He and Woodson have Pistons connection.

is he in game shape?

Melo can play the 4 ... it just beats up his body more on the defensive end.

Man ... I said you guys should have amnestied Amare. I figured this would happen.

Hopefully it clears up with some rest and therapy. Big bodies jack up their discs. He needs a chiropractor 24/7, and massage, etc. Take over his life, and see if you can manage it. Acupuncture... snake oil... everything.

If not, surgery in the off-season, but he'll come back weaker - if he can at all.

You guys have enough depth... Run Melo at the 4 and JR at the 3, and your offense will go nuts.

Nothing official yet but here's excerpts from an article that will give us an idea of what to expect:

Dr. Wellington Hsu , a back specialist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago who specializes in sports medicine, told The Post a common procedure to treat bulging disks for pro athletes is an epidural steroid injection in addition to oral anti-inflammatory medication.

Hsu, who has not treated Stoudemire, has done studies on NBA players with bulging disk injuries.

“They need him to withstand the rigors of a seven-game series,’’ Hsu said. “The more you wait, the likelihood is of getting stronger. He needs to demonstrate full range of motion of his back without any pain. The question they are probably asking is how long to shut activity down and work on his core, seeing they have the playoffs in mind and using that as a timetable.’’

Hsu said it is possible Stoudemire had a bulging disk for a while and that caused spasms and a muscle pull. Stoudemire said Saturday night after his back stiffened it was a separate injury from Boston. Hsu also said a bulging disk doesn’t go away unless surgery takes place.

“Surgery is a very reasonable option,’’ Hsu said of the offseason.

Amare Stoudemire has a similar/if-not-same injury that sidelined Robin Lopez for much on the 09'10 playoffs, and the latter part of the regular season.

With a bulging disc in his back, Lopez's mobility and athleticism was greatly affect not only when he came back that same season to play in the Western Conference Finals, but for almost the whol season after.

It seemed as if Lopez never recovered from that injury, which occured in 2010, until now, in 2012. For the whole of the 2010/2011 season, he was horrid. No vertical jump, no rebounding ability, and just plain lack of explosiveness. Once, even though he's 7 foot, he could not get high enough for a dunk. Lopez's terrible play was the reason for a Gortat trade.

Now, I cannot 100% guarantee that his terrible play was related to his back injury, but there really is no other explanation for it.

I hope this isnt the case for Amare Stoudemire, but it's a scenario that is very likely if the doctor's diagnosis is correct. :(

Knicks say "both doctors have agreed that he should undergo non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation, that will include an epidural."

I'm still pessimistic about this. I'd be very surprised if Stat is back in 2 weeks.

Thank you for your perspective. Even after Gallo's surgery, it took him the better part of two seasons to regain his athleticism.

I sincerely doubt he'll be effective in 2-4 weeks. It's great news on paper, but I'm afraid we'll be getting a stat with absolutely no lift or explosion.

The 2-4 week estimate is great but I really hope they aren't trying to rush him back. Recall games three and four of the playoffs last year when Amare gutted it out but just could not move on the court and was much more of a liability than an asset. I hope the doctors--and the team--understand that Amare is a warrior and will play through pain but it's better for the team and him to ensure he's back to a point where he can be effective before getting back out onto the court.
