REJECTED! ...Casden/Magic Winning!

Post#21 » by Kilroy » Mon Mar 19, 2012 7:22 pm

Alan Casden has been rejected by Major League Baseball as a bidder for the Dodgers and Dodger Stadium, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.

Casden is a Los Angeles real estate investor.

Major League ownership committees held meetings with bidders still in the running on Monday in Phoenix, and Casden was not invited.

Mustard's off his hot dog... More fools getting the classic shake and bake from Magic...

Only five bidders remain in the race to purchase the Los Angeles Dodgers and the largest offer so far is $1.6 billion.

According to a source, the group headed by NBA legend Magic Johnson is responsible for that offer.

Steve Cohen, a hedge fund billionaire, is still very much in the mix.

"[T]he owners were extremely impressed with the make up of Cohen's bid, according to my source, which was $1.4 billion but included an astounding $900 million of equity. There were five strong bids," writes Mike Ozanian of Forbes Magazine.

Three remaining bidders approved by MLB/Decision days away.

Major League Baseball owners have unanimously approved the three remaining groups bidding to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers from Frank McCourt, setting up a final private auction for the bankrupt team.

A person familiar with the call, speaking on condition of anonymity because no announcement was made, said the vote took place during a teleconference Tuesday. McCourt and his advisers will conduct negotiations and select the winner in the coming days.

One group is led by former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson; another by Stan Kroenke, whose family properties include the St. Louis Rams; and the last by Steven Cohen, a hedge fund founder who is a limited partner in the New York Mets.

Magic Johnson Wins Auction

Post#23 » by Jetset » Wed Mar 28, 2012 3:23 am

Basketball legend Magic Johnson led a group that won an auction for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team Tuesday night, marking the final chapter of in a soap-opera style saga for the legendary franchise, according to people involved in the process.

With a bid of $2 billion, Johnson and partners Peter Guber, Stan Kasten, Bobby Patton and Todd Boehly beat out a group of some of the wealthiest businessmen in the country to land a team that is one of Major League Baseball's flagship franchises. The sales figure shatters the previous record sales price for a U.S. sports franchise, Steve Ross's purchase of the Miami Dolphins for $1.1 billion three years ago.

But buying the Dodgers now comes with a unique opportunity to launch a potentially lucrative regional sports network in the country's second largest market, or sign a new local broadcast deal with the current broadcaster, News Corp.'s NWSA +0.30% Fox unit, which has already offered the team a 17-year extension valued at nearly $3 billion.

Congrats you guys, especially you Kilroy. I know how much you wanted this lol.

I love this for the Dodgers. The parking lot not being involved is a bummer but I guess the group felt it was still in their best interest to offer the money. Cheers!
