MarhMAdness Edition PLAYOFFS

Post#1 » by SamBone » Wed Mar 28, 2012 5:20 pm

ok, I aeraged out the seeds for the plaoffs and here goes.
Note: I gave teams that were on more rankings the advantag over teams that got better scores but were on less rankings. For example Philly had an averagplayoff seed of 5.88 (but were only on 9 rankings lists) and Charlotte had an average of 6.16 (but was on 12 ranki) so I gave Charlotte the 7 seed over Philly cause more voters had them in playoffs

EAST
1. NY
2. MIA
3. DET
4. ORL
5. INDY
6. TOR
7. CHAR
8. Philly
* Atl and CLEV just miss out and would have been in if they were in WEST

WEST
1. LAKERS
2. MINNY
3. PORT
4. Utah
5. CLIPPERS
6. MEM (were on more rankings so bumped ahead of SAC)
7. SAC
8. NO (had the most votes of the teams left)

So Round 1 is

EAST
NY vs PHILLY
ORL vs INDY

MIA vs CHAR
DET vs TOR

WEST
Lakers vs NO
Utah vs CLIPPERS

MINNY vs SAC
PORT vs MEM

I think we should do a one paragraph writeup to show how our team matches up against the opposing team

fine, 1 paragraph include minutes played in rotation, keep it short. 24 hours will be given then voting will begin at 8pm EST tomorrow (3/28) NO EXTENSIONS, since really just the rotation is needed.

At 8pm EST tomorrow people can start to vote. Do not vote on your series. Any suggestions on how many votes decide can be talked about in "discussion thread". Anyone can vote, not just people in playoffs

Indiana Writeup

vs Orlando

Playoff tweaks for roster - increased defensive outlook and minutes for established players. Closing lineup:

John Wall [37] / Jameer Nelson [11]
Paul George [6] / Gary Neal [18] / Gerald Henderson [24] /Anthony Parker
Shane Battier [16] / Paul George [32]
Kevin Garnett [34] / Kevin Seraphin [14] / Nikola Mirotic / Jeff Pendergraph
Roy Hibbert [32]/ Zaza Pachulia [16]

KG's only job will be to defend Dirk out of the game. Not an easy task but he will not shoulder much load offensively so his focus will be D. Hibbert is one of the few 7'0+ Centers who can truly match Duncan's length and we feel with a year's more development he'll have more impact than TD; especially defensively. Battier and Marion go head to head and we're confident Marion's (lack of) offensive game can be controlled. We will focus our offense through John Wall as Nash will have no answer. If TD slacks off to help, we can punish. Paul George will see increased volume and again has the size to match Marion and the ability to guard the hot hand of OJ or Young. In short - fantastic length, defence and mobility and favourable size matchups (one of the few teams to match the length of Marion/Dirk/TD) = a narrow series win, IMO.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Hornets Writeup
VS LAL

Depth Chart:
Jose Calderon(30) / Alec Burks(18)
Alec Burks(20) / Daequan Cook(15) / Quincy Pondexter(13)
Michael Beasley(32) / Quincy Miller(16)
Andrea Bargnani(34) / Tyrus Thomas(14)
Derrick Favors(32) / Meyers Leonard(16)

Well this will be a tough matchup VS Kobe and Dwight..but outside of them the team has almost no one else.
Alec Burks has already played Kobe great in their last meeting, dominating the 4th quarter and helping to hold Kobe to 3-20. We have 3 players to throw at Dwight(Thomas / Favors / Leonard). Plus who will be guarding Bargnani? He's way too skilled / quick for Collison. We will make his old team play uptempo and try to run them out of the building with our young guys and scorers all over the place. :D

Minnesota Writeup

VS SAC

Depth Chart:
PG: Derrick Rose(38) / Steve Blake(10)
SG: Gordon Hayward(20) / Nick Young(28)
SF: Luc Mbah a Moute(15) / Martell Webster(21) / Gordon Hayward(12)
PF: Kevin Love(22) /Luc Mbah a Moute(15) Dante Cunningham(11)
C: Samuel Dalembert(32) / Kevin Love(16)

I will have Mbah a Moute defend Wade most of the game. I could also put in a zone because SAC's best outside shooter is Baron Davis. Lamar Odom has been one of the worst players in the league, and Davis / Camby are non-factors on offense most of the time so I could put all my teams focus on Wade / ZBo. On offense, Rose would get whatever he wanted against Baron Davis, and Love would draw ZBO out of the paint and make him uncomfortable out on the perimeter.

#6 Memphis looking for the upset vs #3 Portland!!!
PG: Brandon Jennings (32)/ Johnny Flynn (12)/ Jannero Pargo (4)
SG: Jeremy Lamb (25)/ Courtney Lee (20)/ Nolan Smith (3)
SF: Jeff Green (27)/ Austin Daye (14)/ Dominique Jones (4)/ Christain Eyenga (3)
PF: Perry Jones III (34)/ Craig Brackins (8)/ Brandon Wright (6)
C: Brook Lopez (31)/ Jason Thompson (17)

Jennings' scoring spark will for the most part negate Paul's great presence at Pg, Harden will be tough to stop at SG but Lamb and my 6th man Courtney Lee will try their best and should be able to make some plays. The Frontcourt is where my team will try to exploit Portland; SF is where my team should do the most damage, Jeff Green will have his way vs an older Turkoglu who hasn't been playing well as of late (no offense to Turk). Okafor isn't a natural PF and Perry Jones (another young guy) should be able to outrun Okafor on fast breaks, and should be able to work more for offensive rebounds, not to mention his outside shooting which Okafor will have trouble defending. Also Brook Lopez can outplay JaVale Mcgee on the offensive end with a superior post game, and when he's winded another young stud, Jason Thompson, can take over at the Center position. Finally my bench has everyone playing in this game so there won't be much danger of guys getting too tired.

nash (34)/miller (14)
mayo(28)/beaubois(18)/garcia(2)
marion(34)/landry(8)/honeycutt(6)
nowitzki(34)/landry(10)/murphy(2)/villanueva(2)
duncan(34)/stiemsma(8)/randolph(4)

My team wins due to veteran experience. Nash, Dirk, and TD all have MVP experience. My front court has been the MVP of their respective championship teams previously. Nash is the best facilitator in the game...he's not slowing down at all!!! He's 21.43 PER, avging 13 pts and 11 asts, on 54% FG, 39% 3FG, and 88% FT. Duncan has a 21.77 PER, Dirk is 21.94, Roddy 16.28 coming off the bench. Nash won't be able to keep up with Jwall's speed, but he'll be much more efficient and effective at distributing the ball. KG will slow Dirk down a bit, but I sitll say overall Dirk/TD will be a deadly front court, ESPECIALLY WITH THEIR IQ, compared to KG/Hibbert. Battier's been pretty ineffective this year while Marion's been a way better defender and can run the fast break way better. Mayo will pair Nash's outside shooting very nicely and his athleticism will only help the vet team and I know can keep up with George. Lastly, my bench of Andre, Roddy, Landry, and AR will beat IND's bench pretty easily. ORL wins 4-1 in the series due to high IQ and a giant bank of experience.

Toronto vs. Detroit

Curry (34) / Dragic (14)
Iguodala (36) / C. Brewer (12)
Gallinari (34) / Budinger (14)
R. Anderson (30) / Kirilenko (18)
Valanciunas (30) / Udoh (18)

No fun going up against a TMAC team, ever. Hard to predict how we'll do, since much depends on Valanciunas and no one knows how good he'll be one year in. But a few notes on the matchup with Detroit:

-- We'll cross-match on defense, with Iguodala or Brewer guarding Carmelo, and Gallinari or Budinger taking Batum.
-- Kirilenko and Udoh will get some extra minutes to fight off Griffin in the low post.
-- Detroit has some high-volume scorers, but at least this year they are also quite inefficient - Melo's TS% is a shocking .496 and Griffin's is .549 because of his poor foul shooting. By contrast, our main weapons are hyper-efficient: Curry's TS% is .605, Anderson .597, Gallinari .576.
-- We've got a considerably stonger bench: Dragic / Brewer / Budinger / Kirilenko / Udoh vs. Farmar / Dunleavy / McGuire / Ayon / Hill.

I think you should post each write up under their teams rotation/minutes. Would just be easier to look at and decide which team would win.

LA Lakers Writeup

PG: Chauncey Billups [18] /Andrew Goudelock [10] / Jeremy Pargo
SG: Kobe Bryant [38] / Sasha Vujacic [10]
SF: Ronnie Brewer [30] / Josh Howard [18]
PF: Nick Collison [34] / Jason Maxiell [14] / Chinemelu Elonu
C: Dwight Howard [38] / Aaron Gray [10] / Ater Majok

vs New Orleans

Offense will be structured around Kobe 1a), Dwight 1b), Billups 3. I expect Kobe to average 25-30ppg, Dwight 22-24, Billups 15, leaving the remainder of my team responsibility to score just 20 or so points. Billups is better than Jose, and is a perfect fit to knock down 3's next to Kobe. He's also smart enough to keep Kobe in line if he starts chucking too much. Kobe will teach Burks a lesson, whilst Dwight will simply outpower any of the young bigs NOH throw at him. Brewer only gives up an inch to Beasley and defends well; Collison's role will be to take charges and set screens whilst Chauncey/Kobe run pick & rolls / pops with Dwight all day. Bargnani may average 15-20ppg for the series but I'm confident my team has the experience and defensive competence to slow down this young team, most of whom will be experiencing their first playoff series.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Charlotte vs Miami

Mike Conley [32] | Kirk Hinrich [10] | Damian Lillard [06]
Eric Gordon [36] | Mickael Pietrus [10] | Kirk Hinrich [02]
Rudy Gay [38] | Mickael Pietrus [10]
David Lee [24] | Kenyon Martin [24]
Omer Asik [26] | David Lee [12] | Chris Andersen [10]

vs

Parker (38)/Cole (10)/Holloway(0)
Martin (33)/Meeks (10)/Jones (5)
LBJ (43)/Jones (5)/Taylor (0)
Nene (20)/Scola (20)/EdDavis (8)
Chandler (30)/Nene (13)/Mohammed (5)

Defense wins championships. Outside of LeBron/Chandler they have no real defensive presence. My team is built around guys who can get it done on both ends of the floor (maybe with the exception of Lee). My bench is build around better than average defenders and a lot of shooters who can space the floor while Gordon/Gay run iso.

Conley/Hinrich/Lillard > Parker/Cole
- We have the defensive advantage; Parker will be playing off-ball alot with James on the team. Hinrich has the experience while Cole isn't always too consistent.

Gordon/Pietrus/Hinrich > Martin/Meeks/Jones
- A no-brainer. Just the talent and experience alone we win this matchup.

James/Jones > Gay/Pietrus
- James is the only real problem here. But not too worried. Gay/Pietrus are solid defenders and have the size and talent to keep him on the perimeter. Jones is going to stay on the 3-point line, but he's crazy if he thinks Mickael is going to let him get easy shots.

Nene/Scola/Davis > Lee/Martin
- Barely. Nene/Scola are average rebounders/defenders; Lee will get 20/10 every game in this series unless Chandler is guarding him for the entire 36 minutes he is on the floor.

Asik/Lee/Andersen > Chandler/Nene/Mohammed
- Asik makes VERY LITTLE mistakes. He's no threat offensively but that's not his role (even though he's abose .500 in FG%). Lee also plays 5 spot if we're running small ball. Again unless Chandler is guarding him the entire 36 minute he's on the floor (giving Nene LESS minutes), he's going to get his. Birdman is Birdman, he's going to bother ANYONE in the middle.

Bench depth plus the the difference in defense allows us to squeeze by King James and co.

4-3 Charlotte.
Dammit...:

I've got Nurkic fever now.

#1 seed New York
PG: DWill (35) / Vasquez (13)
SG: T.Allen (30) / Korver (18) / D.Jones
SF: KD (38)/ Harrington (10)
PF:Al Jeff (18)/ Haslem (20) / (Harrington) (10) / L.Allen
C : D.Jordan (30) / (Al Jeff) (13) / Mozgov (5)

vs

#8 seed Philadelphia
Ricky Rubio/Delonte West
Jason Richardson/Jason Terry/DeShawn Stevenson
Jared Dudley/Marvin Williams/Xavier Henry
DeMarcus Cousins/Matt Bonner/Ronny Turiaf
Marc Gasol/Festus Ezeli

Philly has a very impressive team that will be a challenge in the years to come, but that is in the future. In the present, they will have a very difficult time against my Knicks team.

On Offense my team will be led by the great Kevin Durant (NBA scoring champ) who is also very efficient (.611 TS% ) and our floor general Deron Williams. Our post offense will come from Big Al Jefferson (19ppg on 49% shooting). My Big 3 all fit great together and will be a nightmare to match up against. My starting unit is rounded out by defensive players, but they both know their role and thrive in similar roles in real life and will contribute on offense and on the break. Tony Allen (10.7ppg on 49% shooting and 44% from 3) so he will capitalize when left open, and DeAndrea Jordan (5th in NBA in Offensive Rebounds which leads to his 7.6 ppg on 63% shooting). Our offensive punch from the 2nd unit will come from Al Harrington who currently in the same role is putting up 14 ppg on 45% shooting. Korver will be used to stretch the floor when he is in the games and is deadly from downtown when left open. Vasquez and Haslem will also be getting solid minutes in our rotation.

Defensively our team is solid. Our team is anchored by out 2 shot blocking BIGS who will cause problems for people that try to drive. Our unit is all solid on D with KD being underrated and Deron being very solid. Tony Allen may be the best wing defender in the game and Haslem off the bench is very solid himself.

I do not see any matchups that will cause much damage in this series. Phillys BIGS are very good players and both have a bright future, but neither can take over a game and neither will do anything special (maybe not even thir average) against my BIGS. I see this as a NY sweep and a learning step for the for and coming Philly team
