NBA looking into putting sponsor logos on jerseys

Post#1 » by Gek » Wed Mar 28, 2012 6:00 pm

How would you feel about a gatorade logo on Lakers jerseys?

The NBA Board of Governors will meet next month to discuss the possibility of adding sponsors to their jerseys.

Both players and coaches have expressed support in the concept.

"I've been trying to tell [the NBA]," Mark Cuban said. "If someone wants to give us $10 million, I'll make it happen."

Cuban believes it will become viable to David Stern if the money is substantial.

"If the amount's enough, David will jump up and down," Cuban said. "He's not going to do it for $200,000 from Power Balance, but if somebody offers us $25 million, it's done.

"We just have to work out the split with all the teams so everybody gets the benefits."

Club soccer teams have had sponsors on their jerseys for decades.

This is great news. Unfortunately some teams will align with dumb sponsors but the money is there. For the Lakers, i could see a sponsor on the back of the jersey below the number. I think that would be a good spot.

 It's true... who would pay to sponsor Nascar when you could sponsor the NBA... then the NFL would follow suit because they want the extra 20-30 million a year.

i would assume so.

though if it was, theyd remove the team name and have a team logo on the top left part of the jersey and have a nice large one across the chest

people get used to it real quick

players will want to restructure the CBA or get a % of that money I think. What if Nike players had to have giant Addidas logos on their jerseys... the Lakers would be sponsored by paramount or something.

Way to throw out the history of the NBA, Stern.

Isn't there already enough money for court side signage or arena signage? Just start charging more for the signs on the court side. It's not like I drink more Gatorade with the logo plastered on all the benches.

Great idea, then maybe then they could scrap revenue sharing.

They should put LAKERSTAPLES across the front of the jerseys.
