Assume the Bobcats win the #1 draft pick in 2012.

Here are the 2012 free agents:

Tell us how you'd get the Bobcats back to respectability.

I say stay the course and be horrible again next year after a nice pick this year and then spend the money in 2013. There isn't a quick fix with this team, and even with a decent FA signing this team wont be respectable next year. Unless you call a 20-25 win team respectable.

You have got to get a decent free agent along with the best pick possibe. This team cannot be anpther ten win team again next year. I pray that both mj and higgins wash their hands of drafting players. Higgins actually doesn't have the guts to make a pick but does whatever mj says. Last draft he made sure to tell everyone it was cho and mj who pick the players.

My Plan if I was the Bobcats GM:

1. Get paycheck
2. Quit hopeless job
3. Go to Bahamas

I'd do whatever I can to trade the #1 for John Wall or DeMarcus Cousins.

Yea, I said it. I'd also sign Kwame Brown.

assuming we get the #1 pick I draft for Anthony Davis, then package DJ Augustin and the '13 Portland pick for another lottery pick and get Perry Jones III(or Quincy Miller If PJ3 isn't available), Trade mags at the deadline for a late '13 pick, draft Tony Wroten with 2nd rounder. Vets i'd go after for cheap (Crash if hes willing to take a paycut, Hinrich to be a mentor to the guards, Nareja good locker room guy, and Kwame if he'd sign here long term for cheap)Youngins i'd go after in FA for long term deals, Mayo and Terrance Williams

Kemba Walker/Tony Worten
Gerald Henderson/OJ Mayo/Reggie Williams
Perry Jones III/Terrance Williams
Anthony Davis/Derrick Brown/(Nareja?)
Bismack Biyombo/Byron Mullens/(Kwame?)

Cousins in his last five:

27.2ppg / 13.2rpg / 1.4bpg / 2.2spg

He's been a 20/10 for the past two months. Yea, I'll take that over Anthony Davis just like the Clippers took Elton Brand over Tyson Chandler.

I don't see Cousins being a franchise player on a championship winning team, Anthony Davis I however do

If Portland are after Dj, (like that ballwhore character seems to suggest) I wonder if they would consider DJ and returning their 13 pick for their 12 pick? They're a lotto team right now and seem to be tanking.

Are they even allowed to?

I'm sure they're allowed to but why would they? All they have to do is throw a big number in RFA and we won't match it. Granted if they do that we might be able to steal Batum but it's a crap shoot. Plus with their GM situation and all; whoever they hire may not like DJ.

The only way I could see a S&T happening is if there are more than two interested teams and DJ likes them both. Even then, we won't get anything more than a draft pick/swap and/or money in return.

I'd trade Kemba and the #1 overall for an expiring. It might be the only way we can get rid of Kemba, but with his contract and lack of basketball skill I'm not sure we have a choice anymore.

We have an amnesty clause. If we can manage to trade kemba and the #1 overall for an expiring, then we can use the amnesty on Tyrus. If we can't, I'm afraid Kemba has to go somehow...

I'm just spitballin really.

I would insist that we draft Dusan CANTEKIN in the 2nd round.
This team is screaming for a 7'4 lanky white goon. Heck, this league is sorely missing its unco giants.

1. Give DJA the qualifying offer or let him walk. If he wants $7m/year, really let him walk.
2. Draft Anthony Davis
3. Kemba needs a vet BACKUP and mentor, not someone to start ahead of him. Someone to teach him the what being a PG is all about. Would love Chauncey or Kidd, but don't know if they see themselves that way now. If it helps, make Kidd the player-coach, and set him up for a job post-playing days.
4. Hire either Jeff Van Gundy or Jerry Sloan to be head coach, with defense and fundamentals the key to the team. With Biz and Davis, we can do that.
5. We need someone to excite the fans with energy coming off the bench. Get Gerald Green. This team needs more Geralds.
6. Subtly tell the agents of UFAs, that if you sign here, you get a guaranteed contract with Jordan brand.
7. Spread a nasty rumor that Kidd-Gilchrist has no ACLs like Dejuan Blair. Snatch him with our second round pick.

Lineup:
Kemba/Kidd
Hendo/Green
Kidd-Gilchrist/TT
Anthony Davis/Brown
Bizmack/Mullens
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

Why would we give up the top pick just to get rid of Kemba? We haven't even put Kemba through a full summer of training, there's no reason to jeopardize this draft to unload Kemba. I'd only trade Kemba if it got us a top 15-20 pick in this draft or a very good player on a decent contract. Kemba's contract isn't impacting our future the way TT's is.

Someone like Chauncey and Kidd are going to be chasing rings, not wasting their last years in the NBA mentoring a middle-of-the-road point guard in Charlotte.

There's no magic wand to waive and make your team into an instant playoff team for next season. It will take a little more suffering, so stay the course of rebuilding, not trying to make the big jump for next season. 2013 looks better to be the time to shine.

Add assets, not trade them. I'm on the fence with Walker but it is too early to give up on him. Biyombo is a lock of course. Henderson would have to really bring something that is a no brainer in return. So anyone else, besides the draft picks are up for trade. Out of everyone I would think looking at a sign and trade with Augustin makes sense, as long as whoever is traded back fits for not only next season but beyond that. I don't really care about the position.

I might look at Utah as a trading partner for one of their four bigs ONLY if you guys lose out on the lotto draw and thus Anthony Davis. If you end up with Harrison Barnes or Gilchrist then if you could get either Al Jefferson or Milsap, both good scorers to compliment Biyombo, then you at least have a starting five with Walker, Henderson, Barnes, Milsap( or Jefferson), and Biyombo.

Don't go out on any free agent limbs just because you have cap space. Be shrewd and see if you can get a couple of solid role players for bench depth such as George Hill, JJ Hickson, or Jason Thompson, and and leave it at that until 2013.

I do think that Ty Thomas' time has come and gone and he may as well be an amnesty casualty. You just don't need the lingering question marks around going into next season. Make the clean cut and move on.

Once both Diop( I'm assuming he doesn't opt out) and Maggette expire after next season there will be more room again for free agency to go the next step.

1) use storytellerscontracts.com
2) no need to do anything significant, just suck one more year - doing something else would be stupid
3) amnesty Tyrus Thomas, if not before the 2012/2013 season then before the next one, simply don't let his salary count in 2013 offseason

1. Deal with Tyrus. Offer Tyrus to IND for Dahntay Jones. Please understand, it's not that I think DJones is the SG we need. He's older, hopefully someone IND sees as expendable. You're IND's GM, you're looking at former 1st rd pick, 6'10 and still only 25 yo TT, less than a yr removed from putting up a 20 PER vs. an older wing you don't really need? Maybe. Maybe you take a chance that TT's not done. 'Cause he can still rebound and block shots. We get back a tough perimeter defender with sweet contract. (I picked IND because they can absorb TT in their cap). They don't like the deal? Offer them TT for a 2nd rd '12 pick. Anything. Listen, amnestyzing TT sounds great, but MJ still pays that salary, which ultimately means less in the coffers to pay other players.

. . . failing this sort of deal (let's face it, his contract looks like an albatross), hire people to pull a 6 million dollar man routine. . . "We can rebuild him." Seriously, he's 25, he's 6'10, we can work with that, no? You've got $28 mln and a dealt 1st rd draft choice invested in this guy, you can't afford the best medical analysis, physical trainer, marketing strategy to pump him up physically and emotionally to the point where he's at least serviceable? Heck, hire a hypnotist and a decent head coach to convince him that, especially if we draft ADavis, we need him to block and rebound and not to chuck. A big man rotation featuring ADavis, Biz & TT? I would expend maximum effort this offseason to get Tyrus Thomas to the point where he's back to being physically imposing, and at least tradeable. This is critical to this franchise.
