Garnett's contract is done this year?

Post#1 » by nghedman » Thu Mar 29, 2012 3:48 pm

It appears Garnett would be a FA and I doubt Boston is dumb enough to let him go for nothing. So they will (or have done) something to hold his value.

Who would you give up to get the aging yet accomplished veteran that plays defense (and can score)?

Boston has to be going after some youth so I would quickly give away kantor and Evans. Evans is an undervalued jewel right now. And if Boston wanted Jefferson back I would probably trade him too but not if Favors was in the deal. In fact Favors is probably the untradeable item Garnett would be showing by example how to play.

It's interesting isn't it how one can see some of Jeffersons moves and playing style in the other bigs too.

I don't know if Kantor and Evans is enough for Garnett, I guess maybe we would have to throw in CJ and or Bell or Hayward or Burk. I would give CJ and Bell and that should be more than enough with maybe a second round pick.

I love Burks game! It's hard to find a smaller guy that knows how to play in the paint like Burk does. If he can create his midrange game.... wow, he could become a major player for the Jazz.

So I would probably rate Hayward as more expendable at this point then Burk.

Kantor, CJ, and Evan or Hayward plus a second rounder for the aging Garnett. (he better make it for 3 more years!)

Truth be told, I rather have him than Millsap.

Would be a great vet to have around the young guys and would give you a better chance of winning than Millsap.

That being said, there is no way we get him. He won't come here in FA unless we REALLY overpay for him and he's only going to be good for another couple years at best.

I'd take him--but not at the expense of Kanter or Burks. How many years do you expect to still get out of Garnett? And realize he is used to pulling down $20mill+ salaries. What kind of contract do you expect him to demand?

Forget if WE want him, why the hell would Garnett want to be in Utah?

Lol. What?

Boston has no leverage. He's a FA. Why would we trade anyone for him. He can come here in FA if he wants to. Which he doesn't. End of story.

I just wonder is Boston going to lose out on Garnett and just let him go for nothing? I have a hard time thinking Boston is as dumb as New Jersey.

As far as why would he want to come to utah... If he wants to win, be part of a winning organization and chase another title he would.

I would just love to have Garnett teaching Favors. I really don't think Jefferson is the best for that with his style of play.

Can you image Garnett, Jefferson and Favors as our rotation in the paint!! Awesome! And then with Milsap to fill in were needed.

Garnett has the mental toughness that certain other players lack(small al). That said I dont think Boston is ready to blow up that team. They are still one of the best teams in the eastern conference. They whipped us without one of the best players - Ray Allen. I think they keep Garnett at all costs.

oh my. thats just silly. We probably witnessed Garnett's best game of the year last night and now you would rather have old and moldy KG over Millsap. As mentioned in the Boston game thread - KG plays 5 minutes at a time. His career is all but over. Celts would pee their pants with excitement if a trade for the two was proposed.

WTF is this? Talking about trading Kanter for a 35 year old KG? No GM in the league would make that trade. Lay off the pipe brother.

Look, I wouldn't trade Kanter for Garnet either. But OP sees a lot of things we really do need in Garnet.

1) He still plays good interior defense. Yeah, its not what it used to be, but Boston is still a great defensive team, and he's a big part of that. 2) He brings intensity and attitude. If anything, that's increased in Garnet's old age. 3) He adds veteran leadership and experience. He has a lot of tricks. His game is complete on both ends, and he knows a lot of ins and outs that our guys could benefit from learning.

Anyway, I wouldn't make the trade either, but we are looking at things we currently lack.

Problem is I'm sure he can still land $7-9M for a year or two. With Millsap and Favors, what would be the point? If we were able to get him dirt cheap OBVIOUSLY, but not for what he costs. As much as people hate him, he still puts up 15.6ppg 8.1rpg 2.9apg 1spg 1.1bpg 1.9to in 31.1mpg, and he shoots GREAT all around. His defense is beyond the numbers, he gets into people's head, and gets away with murder. Hell, to be honest with you we might be talking $10M a year for what he brings.
