Thames deserved the job after his performance last season, anyway. And Snider will be back up as soon as somebody gets hurt (it's looking like Lind is the most likely culprit for that right now). No need to trade him yet.

All-right, then. Let's just take a quick tour through history. He hasn't been played much in the last two seasons, with little respect shown from management, callously tossed around the organization. You know the story; we all know the story.

Now, is that the sort of treatment given to a player in whom the organization has strong faith--or any faith? No. He has not been given a chance; so suffice to say that he has, for some time, been seen as expendable, and as such all the various efforts to trade for a starting pitcher--AA has made it clear he prefers trades to free-agent signings--would surely have included him. If not, why are they keeping him in the minors, draining him of options, decreasing his value, if they haven't been trying to cash in what little of it is left through a trade?

Why do people think you need to play in the MLB to develop as a player?

Just because Snider can hit in AAA doesn't mean he isn't extremely flawed as an MLB prospect. It isn't as simple as lack of confidence and experience explaining Snider's struggles. Maybe he's like.. not good?

Nobody should be doubting AA right now in terms of his prospect development approach. This situation would be different if we were the Houston Astros the last half decade in terms of not giving a single f*ck about prospects, but we're right at the top of the list for places a guy like Snider can solidify himself. Snider only has his own flaws to blame for not making it work here

It's quite possible that Snider is, like, not good. The issue is that, entering last season (when we tried to overhaul his approach at the plate), he had an OPS+ of 102 in 675 plate appearances between ages 20-22, which is actually pretty darned good. Flawed, certainly, but there's a reason that people well outside the world of Jays fandom have been asking "what in the blue hell are they doing with Snider!?" for a good two years now.

Quit Colby Rasmusing the kid and let him go somewhere where he can be productive and play every day, he's certainly shown he's capable of producing despite striking out at a high rate.

He's also not a bad fielder (I don't have advanced stats, but based on observation). Seemed to be improving in this area with each game, made a lot of nice grabs and reads on the ball.

Your right is quite a good fielder (according to advanced stats) and is said to take great routes, making the most of his speed.

I think its best for the Jays and Snider (whether he realizes it or not) for him to have a full season in AAA, work on striking out less and getting his mechanics down pat. Bautista is a terrible fielder by advanced metrics and could potentially be moved to first as early as next season which would open up a corner OF that we don't have if we trade Snider, who might see time in RF this season in AAA.

I think its a win-win which just for this year looks like a win-lose. AA is all about class and the last thing he wants is to abuse players like St. Louis did. It makes it harder to bring FA to town.
