More shot attempts for Derrick Williams

Post#1 » by eagleye » Sun Mar 25, 2012 4:52 am

Im new to this board but from what i have seen about Derrick Williams he has a good jumpshot and can take players off the dribble and can pull up from the dribble and shoot it in, so why doesn't he get more shot attempts

instead of Kevin Love getting as many as 28 shots a game, why not balance the attack and give more shot attempts to Derrick Williams because he is the future of the wolves along with Ricky Rubio

Williams is a better rookie than K Love was at the same stage and i see Williams as a future all star in this league

can anyone also post some nba highlights of derrick williams for me to see

Cheers

We should just start D-will at the 3. I mean, his defense blows there....but Is Wes Johnson really that much better on D? If he is, is he that much better on D to offset the fact that he is 100x worse on offense?

I'm tired of watching Johnson period. I'd bring Williams in or start Webster by default. At this rate, I feel Johnson is going to be out of the league after his rookie contract.

Derrick Williams is not a better rookie than Kevin Love was and he is not the future of the Wolves.

Comparison of their rookie seasons:

The reason Derrick doesn't get more shot attempts is because he is wildly inconsistent.

I agree on Williams inconsistency. Outside of rebounding, their rookie seasons are pretty similiar on paper. Williams outside shot is better, and his ability to take it to the rim is better than what Love had then. They both suck on D. Nobody knew that Love had this insane drive to improve his game that he has shown the past two seasons. Meanwhile everyone raves about Williams drive to improve his game. Hopefully he does have it, and he works on his D in the offseason. He has the offensive game to be our starting 3. Even if he can just go from being horrible to being ok on defense next year, having a lineup of Rubio/unknown/DWill/Love/Pek would be pretty sweet.

Holy cow, their numbers per 36 min are remarkably similar.

I agree that Williams can be our starting 3 next year. Let's hope that his drive to improve is all that people say it is. He certainly looks like he could become a great player.

Even as a rookie Kevin Love was an elite rebounder. I don't think Derrick Williams is elite at anything right now.

This says it all.

IF Williams can play consistently at the 3 next season, then he could be "the future" #2 or #3 option on the team.

I like the way Adelman is bringing him along. He needs to earn his shots and minutes. I like Derrick and think he will be a good 2nd option down the road, but right now it scares the hell out of me when he tries to take people off the dribble. Sometimes he gets bailed out by the refs but even then he can't convert from the line reliably. Looking at those stats I'm shocked that Love averaged more blocks a game and per 36 than Derrick.

his numbers have been decent, but mostly inconsequential outside of that clippers game. Seems to have more bumbling moments than success in the clutch.

I thought Williams was a bust before the draft and unfortunately he hasn't done anything to change my mind. Hopefully you can move him in the off season for value.

From the PistonBoard: Would you guys accept a trade of Greg Monroe for Derrick Williams?

Just testing to see if the T-Wolves board was delusional. You guys aren't at all.

I just don't understand why people are so high on Monroe compared to Williams. Their rookie numbers are pretty similar. Give Williams one more year and then compare them. If DW manages to transform himself into SF I'd take him over Monroe with Love and Pek already on the team.

P.S. and lol at a pistons fan stroking his ego here.

Probably because a good centre is MUCH harder to find then a good SF/PF tweener. Monroe has the potential to be an all-star centre.

To me Monroe is more of a PF/C combo than a true center. A guy like Pek is a true center
Beasley turned himself into a SF so why can't Williams?
