"I feel better and better for three weeks. After a first half of the season where my minutes played was irregular, I spend more time now on the ground and I produce good performance, which allows me to progress and develop my confidence. It is really fun! I know I still have to work my game, but I feel I'm progressing every day. Training is fine, but the most important thing is to play games. When you play against players like Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and Tyson Chandler, you learn a lot. I can say that I am currently living my best time since my beginning in the league.
The game against the Lakers was very important for me, I felt great that night. The win was nice and I made a very good performance against the twin towers, Bynum and Gasol. Both are strong and talented! Both are two formidable players who complement each other perfectly. Bynum is a center heavy and Gasol have a very good mobility for his size. Personally, I prefer to defend interiors like Bynum. I prefer the physical match-up because I still have a little trouble against players like Pau mobile for example.
I start to have a role in the team, but what is important for me is to have the confidence of my coach and my teammates. Randy Wittman talks to me and advises me, and I appreciate that. He wants that the team progresses and he’s very demanding with the players, and I think it's the person we need. I don’t know yet what will happen to him in the offseason, but I really want him to stay with us. I am sure it will help us to become a competitive team. Regarding my teammates, I feel that their confidence in me and in the players of the front line is increasing. During the first half of the season, the ball almost never happened to us, the "big". I'm not going to hide that it was quite frustrating. But today, Jan Vesely, Trevor Booker and I can give something to the team because we have more the ball during the game.
We lived some move with the end of the transfer period. This is something very special to live because we don’t know what happens behind the scenes. Players don’t control anything. But we must accept it; it is one part of the business in the NBA. The group knew that JaVale McGee would be exchanged but the departure of Ronny Turiaf and Nick Young has surprised many players. It was strange to see them go because they are two very good friends, but I'm still glad to see they’re in teams that will play the title. I wish them both a lot of successes. I still think that everybody wins in this trade.
Brian Cook and Nene have joined us a few days ago. These are two very good players who are adding their experience in the team. I was often compared to Nene since the beginning of my career, and I'm very happy to now be his teammate. It's a great player, one of the best centers in the NBA. When he arrived in the team, we immediately had a good feeling. He is a very nice and open minded guy who will help me to progress. After the first training session he told me: "Kevin, I'll take under my wing." I will not miss the opportunity to be helped by a player like him!
About the team, I think that even if we don’t win a lot of games, the roster is progressing. The playoffs are over for us this season, but we begin to work for the next season. The goal for the rest of the season is to work on systems and details in order to progress as a team. Even if our season is not good in term of win, I am convinced that the team has a future. From a personal point of view, my goal for the rest of the season is to be the number one on the bench behind Nene and Trevor Booker. The coach leaves me the opportunity to show what I can do in the game; it’s now up to me to prove what I can bring to the team.
