Brown after OKC loss: "Sessions is still in Search Mode"

Post#1 » by Jordan-esque » Fri Mar 30, 2012 5:43 pm

ESPN - Brown still trying to get Session's integrated

Image

Sessions burst onto the scene in L.A. as his point total increased in each of his first four games with the Lakers, culminating with 20 points and 11 assists against Portland in his first start. His last two games haven’t been as special, as he averaged just 7.0 points, 4.5 assists and 4.0 turnovers as L.A. went 1-1 against the Golden State Warriors and the Thunder.

“[Sessions] is in search mode a little bit,” Lakers coach Mike Brown said Thursday.

“He’s with a different group now. Before, coming in with the second unit, he had a little bit of freedom or whatever to just go out and play the game and not worry about taking too many shots or not getting the guys enough touches in the right spot."

"It’s going to take a little bit of time for him to figure out how he can continue to help us.”

Sessions’ addition has already been a sight for sore eyes for the Lakers’ offense as his penetration and ball handling ability has resulted in easy layups at the rim. He may have bucked the learning curve with his instant success upon arrival, but now that Sessions has the additional challenge of fitting his personal offense in while still getting Bryant, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum touches, it’s important he gets comfortable with that balance as quickly as possible.

“I’m still getting there,” Sessions said. “It’s not one of those things that’s 100 percent yet, but that’s no excuse at all … It’s definitely a whole new thing for me with everybody – with Bynum, with Pau, with Kob’ – it’s definitely one of those things you have to get familiar with. It’s not going to happen overnight. Just keep grinding.”

This quote from Mike Brown:

"Before, coming in with the second unit, he had a little bit of freedom or whatever to just go out and play the game and not worry about taking too many shots or not getting the guys enough touches in the right spot."

"It’s going to take a little bit of time for him to figure out how he can continue to help us.”

So basically... Ramon Sessions played a lot better when he was given freedom, but when he started learning the Mike Brown ISO... I mean offensive playbook... he's now in "search mode" and according to Mike Brown, still can't figure out how to help his team yet.

A Jerry Sloan "pick n' roll" type offense would do wonders for Sessions.

Mike Brown needs to be fired. I don't like this guy and his stupid excuses anymore. They're getting more pathetic each game.

I have a feeling this is gonna be a Rudy Tomjanovich era for Mike Brown. I'm officially on the Jerry Sloan bandwagon. The guy really deserves a ring before he leaves the game for good.

I used to have a warm and fuzzy feeling whenever phil would lose us games due to his rotations because I knew that he would come through in the playoffs, with Brown not so much!

Agreed, dude makes me nervous sometimes. I can already see myself getting a stroke in the first round of the playoffs

It's not that complicated, the dude is out of his mind. There should be the starting lineup, Kobe-Bynum in a post duo with the bench players, and then Sessions-Gasol with the bench players. That's it... That's all the thinking it takes. Why the **** is this guy a pro basketball coach if he can't figure out how easy that is. This team has probably blown about 8-10 wins this year.

In the past couple of years when Kobe was out the team was galvanized, working cohesively to win games. Perhaps it's time to do that again. With Sessions here it might be easier than before.

Gonna take some time. Lakers will be searching for a new coach if Coach T is available.

His comments are way off. Sessions is in search mode because he leaves him out so long he can catch a rhythm. Blake should never surpasses him in minutes played unless he's in foul trouble. Against OKC he sat Sessions with about 3 minutes left to go in the 1st quarter & didn't put him back in until 4:30 of the 2nd quarter. So in effect Blake played a whole quarter straight through.
