Why not, you may think the Raptors are off the NBA radar, but NBA.com is charged with promoting all 30 teams and this is a legitimate piece of good media. The league also owns 30% of Raptors NBA TV. Here the website and NBATV in the states gets some free material to run

I have a nice segue for you guys.

Dr Mufasa wrote:There's nothing to indicate JVal would be 2nd, personally I think he'd be in the same group Henson and Zeller are - 11-15

and...

Jonas Valančiūnas quietly having one of the most dominant seasons in LKL history. But it should not be overlooked, so lets go...

Although his per game stats are not mind blowing, he still is:

1st. in efficiency (22.5)
2nd. in points (14.8)
1st. in FG% (71.1%)
2nd. in rebounds (7.8)
1st. in blocks (2)
4th. in fouls drawn (4.7)
4th. in Free throws made (4.8)
4th. in FT% (86.4)
2nd. in double doubles (5)

His pure dominance takes place in per minute stats :

1st. in points
1st. in rebounds
1st. in blocks

And finally, advanced stats is just an icing on the cake. Easily one of the most dominant advanced stats I have have ever seen. This is ridiculous, look at it.

1st. in TS% (0.79%)
3rd. in eFG% (0.7%)
1st. in TRB% (22.4%)
1st. in BLK% (8.6%)
1st. in PPS (2.0)
1st. in PER (35.9)
1st. in FIC (220) *FIC is "Floor impact counter" by the way.

Advanced Euro stats don't usually translate very well since they play a goaltending version of college ball.

Still hilarious that he leads all of them though haha. A good sign.

I really liked the valanciunas pick, in fact I wrote a long article that for some reason didn't get posted on BR about how they should pick Val.

However, I do think there will be a 2 year adjustment period to the NBA. This is because of the different rules and style of the NBA game, as well as the physicality.

As mentioned above, the rules in Euro ball allow for a much more physical style of defense. Fouls are generally harder and goaltending is called differently. We do have a very good defensive coach in Dwayne Casey, so I have no doubt that Val will be taught the skills and defensive schemes as well as anywhere else in the NBA. With that said, there will definitely be an adjustment period where we will see Valanciunas fouling way too often, and losing his man on rotations.

Secondly, physicality. NBA centers are the biggest of the big, but also have a crazy amount of athleticism for their size. Guarding these guys will be a transition and I would look for Valanciunas to get outmuscled a bit in his first year. We can all see that he will need to add a good 20+ lbs of muscle. I can see Valanciunas becoming a Tyson Chandler type player, but even Chandler had to add some size to come into the NBA, and it took him quite a few years to find himself. Another good example is Marc Gasol - different player, but same challenges coming over from Europe. He had much more time to develop but he still had to adjust his game, become more athletic, and learn how to defend in the NBA based on different rules.

With all this said, I can see Valanciunas overcoming these two obstacles within two years to become a very effective Center in the NBA. In fact, I see the potential to become a future all star. He has the tenacity and length to play a very good defensive game, and has great post moves and footwork to be effective in the paint. While the learning curve for big men coming into the NBA is steep, and especially for those transitioning from euroball to the nba, five years from now people will be re-doing the 2011 draft and have Valanciunas as the #1 pick.

And final point. The raptors should be looking to sign a veteran C on a short term 3 year deal to start. He should be able to play 25 mpg while playing at a high level, and most importantly, mentor JV. I'd like to see JV get 20mpg or so in his first year and not be thrown in over his head into the starter role.

That's an interesting thought, but any C good enough to sign for three years and play 25 mpg is going to get a lot of money, at least $7-10 million per, what I would call Sam Dalembert money. And I don't see him as the mentor type. I'd rather mentor him through the coaching staff, and have somebody like Gray and Amir take the C minutes he can't do. I'm not into spending $7-10 million on a mentor.

That's true about Dalembert, his attitude sucks. They could platoon Amir and scrubs at C, just please not more Jamaal Magloire!

We should keep Magloire here for as long as he still wants to play in the NBA. He doesn't need a lot of minutes, but he's a great locker room guy, he's all for getting this franchise turned around however it needs to be, and he's a tough, no nonsense guy that would help bring along our young guys... especially JV.

He will also lay the Sh*t outta someone when they need to be taken down, we haven't had that in a while.

I would sign Asik on a mid level type deal. He would allow Jonas to settle in the first year, instead of being thrown to the wolves. Once Jonas will be ready, Asik can be really good role player of the bench. He would also fit in nicely with Bargs.
