She's overrated because she can dunk. And when everyone makes such a big fuss about her dunking and then you go to youtube to check out these dunks, they are the saddest dunks you've ever seen. I can't imagine how people actually enjoy watching women's basketball (unless you a relative of a player). Knowing that every fast break is going to end in a lame layup is depressing.

No, she can't. No woman can.

Just to reinforce the point someone else made in the previous page: Italy's women national team routinely scrimmages against male junior teams (18 year olds and younger, most of the time not even high quality teams) and they lose more games than they win. Men are on a whole another level from a physical standpoint, that's nature. You just have to take a look at athletics competitions to easily measure the difference. No amount of skill can make up for that.

This "supremely athletic" and "dominant athlete" only has 7 (?!?) dunks in her collegiate career spanning 111-130 games. She stands 6'8" with a 7'2" wingspan. She can't jump at all. An offensively-challenged Joel Anthony would dunk on every possession in the WNBA (or NCAAW). Men's high school students would dunk a lot more often in the WNBA. Not trying to be sexist, but there are hundreds of thousands of men who would be better NBA basketball players than her.

Lol. She's listed at what, 6'8, 210, plays center, (and has the mobility of one). Ask her to play the 5 in the NBA and watch every scrub and backup go for career highs on her. Alternatively, match her up with guys who are 6'8 - you know, guys like Lebron James, Danny Granger - and let her get destroyed by them instead. There is no scenario where she can compete in the NBA.

Yea but have you seen derrick fisher lately? You can not tell me maya moore for example couldn't do what he is (or should I say is not) doing. Just bring the ball up the court, pass to the open guy and shoot when your open. Yes they would struggle with iggy and shump in their face but chances are they are gonna be guarded by under 170 pound brandon jennings or stephen curry which they got a better shot at.

We are not talking about a team full of women, we are talking one woman on a team full of men. Yes she may be a defensive liabilty but then again alot of people in the NBA are defensively challenged so its not a big deal. Just avoid getting too physical but shooting long ranged shots. I sure a top wnba guard could at least do that even with an nba ball. Not not Griner tho, she has not chance in the d-league

Thanks in part to today's movies that show slight women kicking the bejeejus out of huge male villains, many people think women are about equivalent with males in athletic ability. Some years ago my old high school boys teams won a total of three games for the season. The girls team was excellent and almost won the state championship in their division. Since I watched a lot of high school bb at that time, people at work would tell me in all seriousness that they thought the girls could beat the boys. I had to keep from laughing. The boys would have annihilated the girls. The boys had a 6-6 kid who rarely got off the bench (because the head coach was a stooge) but who used to block a lot shots every time he got in the game. He would have probably blocked about 20 girl's shots. The boys were a bad team partly because they were coached badly. But if they played the girls, they'd have scored over 100 pts. easily while holding the girls under thirty. The girls best big player was a slow 6-1 center who barely got off the ground when she jumped. She would have had practically every one of her shots blocked. The boys were just MUCH faster, taller, quicker, stronger than the girls. People are just ignorant.

No chance. She's not all that skilled (unlike let's say, Diana Taurasi, who if given the athleticism of your average NBA player would be very good) and isn't in the same (figurative) league athletically.

Only way I can imagine a woman playing in the nba, is if she's a lebron style physical freak. 6'2"-6'3" but with a the movement/athleticism of a shorter woman. She would need to have the game of a pg, the strength difference would be too much if she had to check a sg or larger.

Okay, since it seems that the Brittney Griner question has pretty much been answered, I'd like to go off on a tangent: which WNBA players (current or former), if given the athleticism of an average to above-average NBA player, would have the combination of skill (shooting, passing ability, court vision, timing) and basketball IQ to do well in the NBA?
