No new merchandise sales? Name change? Possibility. I bet it's new jerseys and/or team colors though. Maybe a new logo.

When he says shuts down he means the team gets contracted or what would more than likely happen would be a move to Seattle. I see neither one happening anytime soon (or ever) since Jordan would take a huge, gigantic financial blow since he would have to pay the city of Charlotte a large amount of money, and we know he won't be in the mood to do that.

That being said I agree with the above. New colors, jerseys, or what not. Don't see a team name change.

I thought it was the NBA that was obligated to pay the penalty if the Bobcats moved out of Charlotte - which would make it even less of a chance of happening?

It might be the NBA. Either way the chances of either the NBA or Jordan paying that penalty to move the team are so slight Im not really that concerned about it. I forgot the exact dollar amount but it is way, way up there.

Bonnell just tweeted that he was told that there is no major announcement coming up and no plans to change the team name. Said the answer he was told was a rather firm answer.

In that case, we might as well buy our Seattle Supersonics gear right now.

if Bonnell spent as much time writing about the bobcats as he does shooting down rumors.. he would be almost decent

No, the possibility is strong that the Hornets name could be reaquired after this season is over. With the new lease agreement in New Orleans, and a new owner likely by June 1st, it is a logical time for them to rebrand that team uniquely to the local area. Nobody there is in love with the transferred brand, and it's association with Shinn is venom to many of their fans.

If MJ is hip to it, I am sure the league (current owner) would be glad to assist in the handoff of the name and brand back to Charlotte.

The original poster of the info (employee) says the pending announcement seems to coincide with no ordering of merchandise yet for next season. That's either a rebrand or a shutdown.

Man... That would just show how pitiful it is.

Also this quote from that forum made me lol. "no ones scared of gay purple bees."

At the Nuggets game Friday night there was random chants of "Char-Lotte Hor-Nets" from pockets of fans in the stands. After the game, in the main lobby as you exit, there was a group of 30 or so fans in Hornet jerseys chanting the same thing with many others jumping in. Seems like this thing is gaining momentum.

I think there is a guy out there who is a big proponent for getting the Hornets name back, and he's the one who started an online petition to that effect. I also recall that they were planning to come to a Cats game in Hornets gear to demonstrate their desire for a name change.

If New Orleans makes a name change, I think it would be great to get the Hornets name back. But, that whole thing was already discussed here earlier. I'm not convinced Jordan would spend the bucks necessary for that.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I'm not sure he was ever even a hornet's fan himself. He was a Bulls guy. He's a Bobcats guy though.

This is all purely speculation based on almost nothing so it's probably wrong but yeah.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/We-Beelie ... 9122320741 is the facebook and a link to sign the petition to change the name back. The only thing that actually disturbs me about it is that one of his friends is trying to sell shirts on there concerning bringing the hornets back and charging $15 a pop.

A bunch of them did "swarm" the arena for the Detroit game, and were on the news, but this isn't really worth talking about until New Orleans specifically says that they want a new name themselves.

Charlotte Hornets?

Post#134 » by Stun704 » Fri Apr 13, 2012 4:46 pm

Couldn't find the rebrand thread, but looks like the stars are aligning for us to get the name back, Tom Benson is buying the Hornets, and more then likely hes changing the team name. It looks like hes buying the team before the draft lottery, no reason for Stern to rig it in NOH's favor now

I like the Hornets name and would prefer them over the Bobcats but Flight sounds real good to me lately. The history behind Flight is actually more recognizable seeing as how the Wright brothers took off in NC and Air Jordan is our owner. But if the people in Charlotte really want the Hornets, we should go after it if its available.

This team should not live in the shadow of another team's legacy. The Hornets abandonded Charlotte. Why in heck anyone wants that name back is beyond me. I would take the colors back though. That teal and purple was the hottest thing going.

Well he's not gonna be taking it out of New Orleans if he owns the Saints too, it would cause a lot of rumors.

I hate Flight. HATE IT. What's our mascot gonna be? Some dinky ass little plane? Some avante-garde post-modernistic drawing of wind? Garbage IMO. Flight-related I'd be ok with, like Jets or Spitfires or Bombers.

I have mixed feelings about going back to Hornets. I'd just assume rebrand completely over that, I think. I did love the teal and purple though.

Don't care what the name is either way. I'd support the Bobcats, Hornets, Flight, Dragons, Manatees, you name it. I still think it's very womanly to be so ultra-concerned with the name and the colors and a rebrand and yadda yadda. Get a better team first, worry about the name second.
