I don't understand why so much importance on defensive anchor at the 4?
I mean you mention KG & Duncan... KG never won anything til he paired up with 2 other, maybe 3 other HoFers.
Come on you know Davis wont have the same impact as Duncan on either side of the court for a while if ever.
Better version of Kenyon Martin is worth the 1st overall pick, not like Martin was a bust and he was the #1 pick iirc it was a weak draft tho.
Defensive anchor at the big man position period. Lets face it, there may not be any franchise big men in the NBA. There's guys like Blake and Love but nobody like Timmy and KG that made a difference defensively. Look at the all the past champions, even though there aren't any franchise big men in the NBA other than Howard and honestly its by default... the big man made all the difference. 2011 - Tyson Chandler put Dallas over the top even though he wasn't a go to guy on offense, 2010,2009 - Pau Gasol/Bynum, 2008 - KG changed the culture in Boston defensively, 2007 - Timmy, 2006 - Shaq, even though Wade carried the team offensively, Shaq still made the difference in the defensive end, 05 timmy, 04 - the difference Big Ben made, 03 - timmy 02,01,00 - Shaq, 99 - Duncan/Robinson.
6'11, 7'5 wing span, the maturity level Davis has defensively, its very intriguing. As I said i don't know how much he will develop offensively, he has the potential to be a 20 ppg player imo but im more intrigued on what he can bring to the table defensively.
As far as Martin goes it was a weak draft... in any other decent draft Kenyon Martin doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the #2 overall pick. Martin was never a force offensively... he can hit a jumper, he has a little hook shot he goes to but he is not a go to guy. He had the benefit of prime Kidd feeding him the ball early in his career. Defensively, Martin has had solid years but he was never a force defensively and definitely nowhere near being an anchor. If Davis does end up being a slightly better version of Martin then your right, he would have never made half the impact Duncan made in his career. And he would definitely not be worth the #1 overall pick. But strictly speaking about his potential, im expecting a lot more from Davis.
