Is anyone else ready for this?
It is pretty clear that George wants out of here to pursue his LA dreams and will stop at NOTHING to derail the project here. And it is also clear through their actions that they really are broke and can't afford to even come up with their part of the pre-develpment cost and will eventually end up derailing the project through their insolvency because the city council will balk at ending up footing the whole bill.
We need to start our own petition drive to send to Stern and the owners meeting saying that we want them to force the sale to Burkle so that this team and city can go ahead and build our arena without their broke asses!
The board of governors did it in NOH when the ownership was broke, they need to recognize that it is necessary here as well.

Yeah I agree. The Maloofs are going to nickel and dime this project to death. I mean a month ago they are trumpeting the proposal and term sheet and now saying they never agreed to certain parts. I think they are just trying to leverage the Kings for every penny they can get because they are broke as a joke stretching themselves to thin.

Re: Is anyone else ready for this?
So, you honestly believe that the Maloofs are so broke that they can sign Chuck Hayes for 22 million dollars, yet can't pay 3 million for pre-development costs? Doesn't make sense. Now, they're douching around if they agreed to it, if they didn't, I can kind of see Georges point since they won't own the building, still, not the time for the Maloofs to be f'ing around, George just about got them on the all time hate list as it is, wise advice to George Maloof would be to suck it up and play nice before he sinks another business.

The good news is the Maloofs are not only alienating the city of Sacramento but AEG and the NBA/David Stern. By balking at paying these petty bills they are damaging relationships they need to move forward. Whether it be here, Anaheim or Seattle. AEG and the NBA have an air tight relationship and David Stern invested countless hours of his own time trying to get a deal done. For the Maloofs to pull this is extremely dangerous...

Yeah I think they are that broke. I believe they could come up with it but a few milly still has to hurt so they aren't broke like a lot of us but by rich people standards, yeah they are probably broke. Signing Hayes is irrelevant.

As a article I read, the Maloofs are willing to pay Travis Outlaw but not for a thing they wanted for almost 15+ years ?

Re: Is anyone else ready for this?
I think the Maloofs will be forced to sell the team if they do not follow through with the agreement. The NBA is pro-Arena in Sacramento and feels that they got a really good deal. So, if the Maloofs decide that they didnt want want to try and move the team, I could see Stern and the other owners force their hand and make them sell.

They want out. Yes they are broke. Yes they sign Hayes to a decent deal, but don't forget they have to spend a certain % of the cap. We are still the lowest payroll. Even if the Kings stay here & get a new arena I think it's pretty clear they won't be signing any big contracts.

/\ THIS!!!
I really think that the "discussion" at the BOG meeting is going to involve whether they are truly solvent enough to continue forward with this project and team ownership, or the NBA has to step in and either a) take the team, or b) force sale to Burkle or whoever steps up with the best offer.
As we saw with NOH, they CAN do this as a collective business in the best interset of the business as a whole. I am sure that the reason that they were able to do that before and can again is because it is in the league charter as a mandated agreement contingent with ownership. It is the same thing that allows the commissioner to asses fines and discipline and hand down rulings in the name of the cooperative league ownership that he represents.
The points about signing Hayes and Outlaw are irrelevant. They were under the league mandated minimum and HAD to spend the money anyway. It shows you though that instead of ponying up bigger $$$$'s for better/more desirable talent that was available (remember the traditional overpay to get guys to come here), they went with the bargain special and hoped that the "local boy" thing would carry the fan base.
They are gamblers. And they have lost and now its time to pay the chits. And like most gamblers, there isn't anything left in the piggy bank to pay off those bills. To bad we can't send a Tony Soprano out to "persuade" them to do the right thing.

I think they are determined to stall until we get to a point where there is no possible way they can open for the 15th season and then try and take the Anaheim deal. Complaining about the pre costs claiming they are just a tenant, fine you get no parking, advertising, naming rights and get just the tickets and concessions like any other tenant would. Sounds reasonable to me.

Re: Is anyone else ready for this?
I think the Maloof Brothers really want to end up in Anaheim. But I agree with the OP that the Maloofs are broke and the NBA Board of Governors really need to ride their asses into the ground and force them to sell. Burkle has a group ready to buy any NBA franchise for Sacramento.
What I think is that Henry Samueli is in the ear of the Maloof Family and making even bigger promises with more money if they come to Anaheim. I think the TV contract alone would be ridiculous for the Maloof Family. They don't want to lose their NBA team, they love their team which is admirable. Their still rich but not filthy rich like they use to be.
In the end, I really want you guys to keep your team. My suggestion would be to David Stern, if the NBA can't find a buyer for the Hornets then have the Maloofs purchase the Hornets allow them to sell the Kings to Burkle's group and move the Hornets to Anaheim.
The thing I'm fearing the most is the NBA doesn't find an owner for the Hornets and then the Maloofs go essentially bankrupt and the NBA decides to contract the Kings & Hornets. I would get a sick feeling for the cities & fans of Sacramento & New Orleans.

I guess it depends on your definition of broke, but how can someone spend more money on players, rather than filling out the roster with minimum deals, and then not afford half that money to do something else? It doesn't add up. They can afford it, they're (or George specifically) is just being a douche about it.

They didn't have to sign Outlaw or Terrence Williams. They didn't have to turn around after they signed Outlaw and re-sign Hayes to an even bigger contract. We're not talking about 100 million here, a little over 3. Like I said doesn't add up. Obviously their overall wealth is much less than it was a few years ago, but when you cease to be able to afford your team, how can you still go out and sign players? How can you keep the lights on? I seriously doubt they have the kind of credit anymore to just borrow, borrow, borrow against air.
As I mentioned in the other thread, you still have to go back to their attempts to sign both Jamal Crawford and AK47. If they ended up taking those deals what's this conversation like now? I mean c'mon.

The word is the family is split with George being the Anaheim guy. Unfortunately he also seems to be the one with the most cunning and brains being able to construct coherent sentences almost at will. KJ's got him licked so no worries there, but how much damage is he going to end up doing to his brothers venture is the question. The resentment was pretty well brushed aside, but the people of Sacramento probably won't be so forgiving this time.
After it was all said and done the final tally of that Anaheim deal was pretty clear to those able to look at all the potentials. Henry Samueli, who is highly unlikely to ever be high on the list of the NBA's preferred owners club, was going to backdoor his way into owning an NBA team, leaving the Maloofs with nothing. They basically put the club up as collateral. That first year their TV deal was going to be on one of Samuelis own networks who one individual from Anaheim that posted on this board called a glorified "cable access" network.
Right now it's not a question of Sacramento keeping it's team, but the Maloofs.

Re: Is anyone else ready for this?
I think everybody is forgetting a very simple fact. Every owner of an NBA and NFL team has other businesses that they rely on for income. In this case the Maloof's don't, its very simple they're treating the kings as a source of income (the reason for having the lowest payroll in the NBA for multiple years).

Maybe they knew AK wasn't coming back so they put on a show. Outlaw and TWill are low cost moves to show hey we're trying something. Jamal was a one year deal with a player option for the second. Again a move that had no long term implications. No distributorship, no Palms, no Maloof Music, no Maloof Skate Tour. I mean they sunk money in lots of things they probably shouldnt have and sold the one thing that was a cash cow in the beer distributorship.

The cap for this is season is 58 million. The Kings are at 46,527,569 million. They are barely spending the minimum even with all these signings.

Hahaha, c'mon, that is a total reach there. With the Maloofs luck he would have accepted and if they're "broke" they would have had to explain why the first check bounced.

Still the argument was about having the lowest salary in the league this year. With those deals falling through it made no sense to just hand out more money to guys you didn't want just so you could say, "See, we spent money!". However them offering the money in the first place does indeed show that they are willing to spend. Smartest move they made was to hold off.

But they would have been well over had they signed both Jamal Crawford and AK47. That's the point and to say they just did it for show is ridiculous. Yes, they are coming off like major D-bags lately, but lets not go on a witch hunt and bend the fabric of time and history in the process.
