Howard Beck ‏ @HowardBeckNYT
Stan Van Gundy just acknowledged that Dwight Howard has asked that he be fired.

Heres the quote from Beck of the NYT

I wouldnt be surprised if SVG resigned today. If so, pick him up NOW!!!

not in favor of a re-tread, even one with a respectable track record
like SVG. That said, he's been fortunate to coach teams that had a lot
of talent. So he's won. Not convinced he's the cat's meow.

Give me Joerger.

While Dwight is the LeBron of defense and can anchor bad defensive players to be better, the Magic have overachieved with SVG. Also, his Heat teams weren't THAT talented. I'd agree it is a retreat, but SVG seems to be in a league of his own when it comes to working with what he has.

This makes Dwight look like a complete idiot and a baby! Bring SVG to WAS and a competent GM and we can go places

Here's a question, Is Tom Thibodeau locked up after this season? I remember seeing something about him still not receiving a contract extension

Chicago never extends their coaches during the season. They're infamous for this.

SVG: "The only thing I'm ever really uncomfortable with is bullshyt. ..."

Dwight Howard comes in not long after, and basically pushed the coach away. That was definitely awkward.

The guys who just missed games are making me think there is something going on behind the scenes. I think Dwight wants SVG fired and said so. I think he is lying. Guys are missing games at a curious time and in strange ways. That is speculation that they don't want the coach on my part. One thing I KNOW is that it isn't the player's job to fire the coach.

Wierd stuff.
The Wizards shoukd have drafted Derik Queen

I told you so :banghead:

I like Stan Van. He's the only retread coach I'd want.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Same here. Stan has gotten a raw deal twice, first with Miami and Riley, and 2nd with Orlando and Howard. He's a smart, talented guy who does good work with his players.

SVG has to go to the top of the list if he's available.

Well, maybe Ted should take advantage. He'd be an excellent hire.

Sadly, if my connections hold any weight whatsoever.....seems like D'Antoni is pretty much guaranteed to be the next coach. The odd claim? Donnie Walsh comes in as GM as well....

NYK south. The Walsh hiring would be great, D'Antoni not so much.....

I for one am not opposed to D'antoni. When its the players he wants to play in his system he has proven to be an effective coach. I also heard I think Chris Mannix on the radio and he indicated that his Phoenix teams were actually middle of the pack defensively when you look at it on a per possession basis. If getting him means Donnie Walsh too, then its even better. Walsh is confident enough in himself to go outside the box on acquisitions and in the draft. Ernie drafts like he's got a printout of nbadraft.net in front of him. In terms of acquisitions, Ernie lost all credibility with Singleton, Martin, and Mason. Not all bad guys but it shows that he has no creativity.

Assuming Mike D'antoni becomes the HC, how does that affect draft plans? Assuming we're not #1, I can't see him going for Robinson. He needs to space the floor and Robinson, Nene, Seraphin, Booker, & Vesely can't spread the floor. If we're going to target shooters on the wings I'd prefer a trade down for someone like Lamb and another pick or player.
