Hmm, you may be right. I thought I remembered her checking back in, and then in the post-game show, Carolyn Peck (commentator) mentioned that she had played after the injury but her status for Notre Dame was uncertain.

That would be a big blow -- they mentioned that she led the ACC in fg% this season.

she leads the Nation in FG%

Sam Cassell Jr. committed to Maryland today.

That means our incoming freshman class is up 6 players.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Checking the brackets, Maryland really caught a break. Stanford is 34-1 and the play undefeated Baylor in the Final Four semifinal. Maryland gets to play 33-3 Notre Dame. That team is guard-oriented but a lot smaller. If they win, in the Final Four their opponent won't have a better record than they do. UConn is 32-4 and Kentucky is worse.

I don't like Maryland's chances because their guards aren't the best, but you never know. They have a decent shot to win two more games IMO.

@CCJ

While I agree that Maryland's guards as a whole aren't elite, shooting guard Lauryn Mincy can match up against any guard in the country.

Actually, I'd be surprised if MD doesn't make it to the title game.

Coach wanted to make sure he has Pshon insurance next season, and Cassell is another guard who can score. UNC falling apart without their PG was further evidence to show the importance of depth at that position. And Sam Jr was apparently a rising prospect. MD's depth is really looking impressive for the future. And I wish I cared about womens' basketball even a little bit. The Lady Terps consistently put together an excellent team.

Alyssa Thomas was just named a 1st team AP All American. Thats big time. Hopefully that gives her a boost going into the ND game knowing that she's getting the same recogition as Diggins

CCJ, no way Maryalnd caught a break. You cant just look at the record. The Big East was way tougher than the Pac 10. UCONN has 4 losses but 2 are to ND and 1 is to Baylor. They also beat Standford. ND has 3 losses but 1 is to UCONN and 1 is to Baylor. Thats why they are on the opposite side of Baylor.

Maryland was crticized early for playing a very weak out of Conference sked and everyone thought the ACC would be down but the ACC was very good this year and Maryland finished so strong that some thought they could overtake UCON for the last #1 seed but since the Huskies beat ND in the Big East Championship game, they got it

Thanks for setting me straight. I really haven't followed women's hoops closely at all this year.

I was surprised to see the Lady Terps close the season out strong. At one point they looked like just another good team in the ACC behind Duke and Miami.

I hope they do advance. It will be interesting to see whether size and rebounding or speed and good guard play prevail.

I thought Frese made a big mistake by going away from what you normally do. Just because you are the bigger team with the size advantage, doesnt mean that your game plan should be centered around going inside to the likes of Devaugh when you hardly ever pass her the ball in any other game.

I think you should play your normal style and that will be enough of an inside game in itself. Even if you wanted to do that, maybe you shouldve started Kizer for this game instead or go to Hawkins who is a much better offensive player than Devaughn.

Still, its also coming down to a few more things. Hungry upper classmen who have been there before vs some younger girls who seemed way too nonchalant yesterday. Then again you have Frese without any kind of good PG to run the Offense. Hasnt had one since she was in Minny with Whalen. Even Tolliver was a turnover machine SG trying to play the point. How come she cant find just 1?

man, the Terps shouldve kept Waltz over Frese.........lol

Seriously though, will she ever have a team that can get stops? Can try to outscore great teams on your way to a title, espically with no PG. Either get a good PG or teach defense better. If neither then she wont win a title again anytime soon

The year after they won it all they had a very young team, still. Those players had two more very poor seasons. Since then I haven't thought much of Frese as a coach.

They don't defend well and they don't seem to have good guard play overall any more.

This game I didn't watch but I'm not too surprised.

Brenda had two PGs transfer within the last two years, Dara Taylor and Natasha Cloud....thus explaining the weakness at the position.

Next year we'll roll with Brene Moseley (ACC Freshman team) and incoming Freshman Chloe Pavlech.

And Alexis (Lexi) Brown will be coming in 2013. Alexis is the #2 RANKED PG in the class of 2013.

She also happens to be the daughter of former NBA player Dee Brown.

So yeah, PG shouldn't be a problem.

Honestly, I think the Lady Terps are a year ahead of where I thought they'd be so I'm not too bummed out.

The 2012 recruiting class:

Malina Howard-----Position: Center Position Rank: #1 Ranking Overall: 7 HT: 6-3

Tierney Pfirman---Position: SF/PF Position Rank: #4 Ranking Overall: 22 HT: 6-2

Chloe Pavlech--- Position: PG Position Rank: #24 HT: 5-6

2013 Recruiting Class (SO FAR):

Alexis (Lexi Brown)----Position: PG Position Rank: #2 Ranking Overall: 17 HT: 5-9

A'lexus Harrison----- Position: SF Position Rank: #14 Ranking Overall: 59 HT: 6-0

Here's an ESPN synopsis of Maryland's recruiting

http://espn.go.com/high-school/girls-ba ... =12&rank=9

The Terps lost out on a couple players, No. 6 Jordan Adams of Irvine, Calif., and No. 16 Alexis Prince of Maitland, Fla., who would have turned this class into a home run, but it's pretty special nonetheless. And viewed in the prism of what Maryland has coming in the near future, its appeal grows.

Coach Brenda Frese already has lights-out point guard Alexis Brown, the No. 17 prospect from Suwanee, Ga., and electrifying wing-forward A'lexus Harrison, the No. 59 prospect from Baltimore, Md., committed from the 2013 class. Those are perfect pieces to put around this year's top signee, Malina Howard of Twinsburg, Ohio, the top-rated true post in 2012 and No. 7 overall prospect. She has very much been on the rise during the past 1-2 years, and her polish and footwork around the boxes set her apart. It's easy to imagine Howard and Brown operating well in pick-and-roll and two-person-game situations.

A very good complement to Howard on the Terrapins' front line will be No. 22 Tierney Pfirman of Williamsport, Pa., who has a versatile game at 6-2 and is a picture of movement and hustle at both ends of the floor. Rounding out the class is Chloe Pavlech of Cincinnati, Ohio, the kind of seasoned combo guard with high basketball IQ that every team can use.

Pieced together, Maryland's 2012 and 2013 (so far) classes have the makings of a versatile, high-powered group that only needs to be supplemented with depth.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

2013 PG Rysheed Jordan continues to impress. So good in pick and roll, great stop and go game and passing feel. Big and physical.

Eric Bossi ‏ @ebosshoops

Jordan is already ranked in the top 25 in 2013 and I don't see him going anywhere. Maryland pushing hard for him.

Michigan transfer Evan Smotrycz @_ev23 told CBSSports his final three are Maryland, Providence and Colorado. Will take officials to all 3.

Cassell Narrows List

The other big news is that Sam Cassell Jr. has "narrowed" his already narrow list, with a final three of South Florida, Maryland, and Pittsburgh. With former McDonald's All-American Trey Zeigler transferring to Pitt I'm assuming they'll be crossed off the list, especially with the possibility that he won't have to sit out a year. So it's most likely a battle between Maryland and USF. USF assistant Eric Skeeters (yup, that's his name) is a Baltimore guy and probably has strong connections to the Cassells, but then so does Bino Ranson. I would imagine the playing time situation would be a bit more attractive at USF. But when a kid gets down to two or three, handicapping goes out the window. Just enjoy the ride.

Sam Cassell doesn't want his son to go to UMCP, or else it would have been a done deal IMO.

I bet his kid goes to USF.

Two of the best girls high schoolers in the state of Georgia.

Terps related.

Most of the "experts" think it's between UCONN and the Terps for the services of Diamond DeShield.

http://wbbinsider.blogspot.com/2012/04/ ... orgia.html
Georgia 2013

1. Diamond DeShields 6-2 W Norcross, GA / AOT - The top player in the country is a human highlight reel and going to make some program in this country a contender to win a national championship. In just 3 years DeShields has done just about everything a high school player can do and although some groups work to hold her back she has proven she is the top player in the state.

2. Alexis Brown 5-10 G Suwanee, GA / AOT - The best shooter in the country actually is the only player to be on the Florida and Georgia list at one point. Brown is already committed to Maryland and will likely challenge early for playing time and to push Maryland to a return to the final four quickly.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.
