Probably back to Queenstown to hit the slopes for a couple days. Keeping well away from that Palmy north area ;)

Cheers myblood and Raff for the info/ sentiments respectively.

Also, the tickets I got for the OKC game came with a free parking pass - we won't need it so if anyone is going and wants free parking let me know and you can have it.

Cheers!

I don't recall seeing oreganos the last time, are they a franchise?

There are a few Oregano's, but I think they're only in AZ--origins in the Phoenix valley. Pizza/pasta place. I think the rest of the food is really good too, but the dessert is absurdly amazing. Yeah, pizookie = pizza + cookie. Served in a pan, warm cookie as the crust, ice cream as the topping. I'm not much of a dessert person, but that stuff is amazing.

Nev, are you flying into PHX from LA or Vegas? Or are you driving into PHX from either? If you are driving, you can find a Walmart off the highways. You can get a ton of Suns stuff there. I have at least three hats from there, and each only cost me $5 US. They also have shirts, jerseys, and a bunch of other stuff with a Suns logo on them. I also got outfits for my son there.

Ross and Marshalls, are more of a hit and miss, with gear. And again Target has stuff in Cali, and Minny(when I was there), but I remember not finding the area that has AZ stuff. However, most of the Target stores have gone through remodels, and have added food.

Hiking the Canyon after many days of binge drinking might be tough. But before I went to Hawaii, I bought a hydration pack for $20 US at Walmart, which will come in handy if you plan on that hike. It is pretty small, so it will travel back with you. I bought it so I could give my son water when I hike with him in a backpack carrier I have for him.

I hope some of this helps, I really love to travel, and plan ahead as best as possible, and I love to exchange knowledge. Have a blast!

Thanks heaps for the great info mate. I'm driving to Phoenix on wednesday from LA after a couple of solid nights out on the turps. Plan is to do Sunset Strip Monday night and downtown Tuesday night - one of my fave bands is playing at club Nokia so I'm going to try and pick up a ticket on the night. Fingers crossed.

Might pull up a bit shabby but we then have all of wednesday to get to PHX. So hopefully there will be a couple of stops along the way where we can refuel and check out the walmarts and Ross and Marshall's.

Probably stay local after the game Wednesday, maybe a few quiet ones at Majerles after the game but I wouldn't mind getting on it at Scottsdale Thursday. But then again, if we're heading out to the canyon Friday, we probably don't want to get too wasted. Those hydration packs sound like a necessity!

Thanks again!

Canyon tip.....A couple gatorades in your backpack is all you need for the Canyon. Snack too of course. The main trail has h2o at a couple of places. What is more important is picking up the powder mix to keep your electrolytes up. Especially if you have been sudsing the days prior.

Catch sunrise at the rim.... then get on the Bright Angel trail. Go all the way down to Plateau Point. That will make it a 12 mile round trip. Just do it. There is also the worlds most remote drinking fountain at the point. Find a shady ledge there and make that your lunch spot. Dangle 2000+ ft above the colorado riv. Rest up for 20 mins at Indian Gardens in some shade (both ways).... then hump it up and out. You'll make it back in time for happy hour at the main lodge. Just think 'cold beer....cold beer' and the energy somehow comes. Did it in Sept.

You traveling with your girl or some of them sheepherders?

Nev, as Frank pointed out, a couple of gats would work as well, if you already have a backpack for traveling. On my packs, I have a ton of things that can clamp onto them with mountain climber clips. Again you can find anything you need in the camping area of either Walmart or Target. Driving from LA to PHX, when you hit Estrella Mountain exit, there is a Walmart there on the right when you exit, and then the next few exits have either Walmarts or Targets on the left side of the freeway.

Which band are you trying to get tickets for? I see a bunch of bands at Club Nokia, because my wife can score free tickets often because her company owns it. Too bad I won't be in town, I may have been able to score you one. :(

If you like bananas, those are good to stock up on after binge drinking. Potassium is what many lack after heavy drinking. Vitamin water has one with potassium, I think it's called Revive.

Frank's idea about the Canyon sounds like fun.

That's probably what we'll end up doing Frank - thanks for the heads up on the Plateau Point side trip from Indian Gardens Campground, didn't even know it existed. If we are indeed limited to a one day trip this certainly sounds like the way to go.

I really hope we luck out with a last minute backcountry permit so we can overnight at Indian Gardens though, that would allow us to spend the Saturday getting down to the bottom and returning to the campgrounds by sundown. Then we could make our way back up first thing Sunday.

And no, no girl at the moment, have a mate from Western Australia coming over with me. Sadly he is a Kiwi by birth but he is a big Gant Hill fan.. So I guess that makes him some sort of weird TASTIC+NF33IH hybrid. Hopefully he's not a big wuss like those two though ;)

That's again for the info, hope to catch you on the next trip!

Excellent, stocking up with both camping gear and Suns gear simultaneously - who says men can't multitask. I'll def be printing out some maps etc this week RDG so I'll make note of those exit points. Thanks again :)

I'm hoping to see Counting Crows - a fave band from my younger years. Also a Californian band so I'm hoping they will put on a good show for their local fans. Plenty of tix still available through resellers so I'm sure I won't have any drama picking one up at the venue.

Actually that is funny that it is Counting Crows. That is a band I have been drumming to for many years now, going back to the August and Everything After cd. And my wife isn't a big fan, so if should could have grabbed the tickets, she would have not wanted to go.

But now I am bummed I will miss them. I haven't seen them live yet, and I would definitely love to. And if all it would have cost me was parking and a few drinks, that would have really been a bonus. More than likely, someone else in the company snagged the tickets since it was a bigger name band. I hope you still get to see them. Can you buy tickets on line for the show, before you leave for the US?

Counting Crows are really good live. I've seen them a couple of times. Probably one of the best bands at singing live that I can remember.

Not to add salt in the wound, but just talked to my wife, and she could have grabbed the CC tickets, but she knew we wouldn't be there in April. Heck if I had known earlier, I could have grabbed the tickets and mailed them to you in time. :(

Just at the airport now, about to board my flight to LA! Travelling Business Class too :D

Thanks again for all the help in this thread guys, it's very much appreciated. If anyone's coming to either the OKC game or the Clipps game be sure to look me up, will probably be at Majerles for beers before and after.

Nice, we upgraded to economy plus for our Hawaii trip, the extra room was perfect with our son. Have a blast, and stay out of trouble. :D
