So, how is Derek 'leadership' Fisher doin'?

Post#1 » by Ettorefm » Sun Apr 8, 2012 2:14 pm

It was almost consensus (argh) in RealGM that signing fisher was a great idea. Even though he was playing like crap, having career lows in everything and one of the lowest PER and FG% in the history for a starter, people believed that his untangibles would change OKC
.
"He can be a great backup with 15 minutes. He'll lead OKC with his leadership, his clutchness, his experience", and all that crap that people love so much.
.
Let's see
.
OKC vs Pacers - 27 minutes, 0-3 FG, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 fouls, 0 points. OKC LOSS
OKC vs Heat - 17 minutes, 1-4 FG, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 1 foul, 2 points. OKC LOSS
OKC vs Memphis - 15 minutes, 0-3 FG, 1 assist, 2 turnovers, 1 foul, 0 points. OKC LOSS
OKC vs Bulls - 22 minutes, 0-2 FG, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 turnovers, 2 fouls, 0 points. OKC WIN
OKC vs Portland - 17 minutes, 2-6 FG, 1 rebound, 5 points
OKC vs Miami - 18 minutes, 0-2 FG, 1 rebound, 2 fouls, 0 points. OKC WIN
OKC vs Wolves (2 OT) - 36 minutes, 2-11, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 fouls, 5 points. OKC WIN
OKC vs Clippers - 20 minutes, 1-3 FG, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 turnover, 1 foul, 5 points. OKC WIN
.
Overall stats(OKC averages)
.
20 minutes
2.7 points
1 assist
1.6 rebound
22% FG
17% 3pt
PER -0.3
.
So, is the great leader and veteran an improvement from Royal Ivey? Or from a D-Leaguer like Mike James?
.
Enough with this crap. D-Fisher is done, and is not a good addition to any team. Basketball is won on the court, not outside, with this 'experience and calm' crap.

In the meantime Gilbert is .588 from 3p in the last 5 games. Playing more than adequate defense and providing quite a lot of poise and leadership to the second unit.

Well, somehow when people bash him, he will immediately sinking a clutch 3pt.

However, you can win a game in the court, but to win a chip, you need veteran leadership in your locker room.. you can't win a chip with awful, uninspiring locker room, lack of chemistry. So i highly regard scrubs like Ammo, Brian, Cardinal etc, being in winning environment is no joke, you must get your head straight & try not to disrupt anything.

People love these stories. This so called intangibles are crap. They might be important from a franchise player
.
It's great for the Lakers that Kobe has 16 seasons on his resumee and have won and lost many times, so his mental preparation is awesome. He won't be bothered with big clutch moments
.
But from a 20 minute scrub with a NEGATIVE PER that wasn't a good player EVEN IN HIS PRIME?
.
Yes, you heard it first. Fisher wasn't good even in his best year. Want stats?
.
His best season was a 13/4 season at 40% FG. Yes. 40% FG. And he needed more than 32 minutes to do this in Golden State. And his PER wasn't even LEAGUE AVERAGE. IT WAS BELOW
.
His career averages are 8.6 points, 3 assists, 40%FG and 37% 3pt. PER average? 11. E-LE-VEN.
.
He was never a to p15 PG in his entire career. And now that he has hit rock bottom, he plays 20 minutes for a contender and puts up the worst stats i've ever seen
.
But I'm sure people still think that when the playoffs come, he'll teach guys from his experience (??) and OKC will win because of him.

his "leadership", right or wrong, will only be judged by how they do in the playoffs.

He's been the worst starter in the league for at least 3 years and the worst player since last season. If he wasn't president of the NBPA he wouldn't be in the league

Does anyone else find it funny that he was brought in PURELY for 'leadership' and people are bashing his stats? Everyone knows he isn't a good player, that's not why OKC brought him in.

Also, saying
Yes, you heard it first. Fisher wasn't good even in his best year.
is funny because people have been saying Fisher sucked his entire career... BASICALLY HIS WHOLE CAREER

IMHO, what's the point of helping his team with untangibles when inside the court, he hurts his team with poor playing, low scoring, turnovers and ridiculous defense?
.
This is why this argument makes no sense to me. Even if I accept that he can help the team by just being there, scoring 2 points on 2-7, having 2 assists, 1 rebound, 3 turnovers and 2 fouls just **** his team even more. What is the **** point?
.
Oh, also, I forgot. He does this crappy numbers, and in 20+ minutes, which is even worse

Derek Fisher wasn't gifted athletically, so he had to become a more cerebral player... he's made a career off of it. He got those looks, but still has to make them. Also uses his smarts in picking his spots to score (see Celtics and Kings and Magic playoff games), be in position defensively, and defer offensively by moving the ball.

He's not really a valuable player anymore as a role-player, but in situational minutes, I bet he'll come up big.

On another note, Ettore, did Derek Fisher do something to your family or spouse? Good christ.

You all sour on his career... settle down on that. Guy has had a solid NBA career, especially for an unathletic small two-guard.

Ask San Antonio about Fisher's playoff performances.

Or Boston or Orlando before you spout off with your ignorant post!
