Too Early...?

Post#1 » by bobbyp3588 » Tue Apr 10, 2012 2:39 am

...to let our still ridiculously effective pitcher with 327 career saves start saving our games?

Why not swap roles with Santos for a stretch until he get his house in order?

Defined bullpen roles are stupid. And no, Cordero is not a better option than Santos.

Didn't Santos only throw something like 4 innings all of spring training?

Instead the coaching staff opted for him to throw bullpen side sessions so he could work on his change up...

Doesn't seem like it was a smart move.

I don't know...

A dude with 327 saves - his business is saving ball games, and business has been good!

Santos, though promising is 2 years removed from being a position player, no?

I'd at least think about swapping those roles for a stretch...

Yes, too early. But hopefully Farrell doesn't take so long to get the 'pen warming up if Santos doesn't have his control.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I've always wondered why teams are so adamant about having a defined closer and set-up man.

It could be a better move long-term but has hurt Santos preparation for the season.

I think we can't jump the gun on this stuff too early and start moving Santos around. He was acquired to be the closer, let him work it out. Give him some innings in non-save situations. He has the stuff, but control is a problem. Still the guy had 30 saves last year, don't start jerking him around.

Yes its far far to early to draw any conclusions Coco is not the pitcher he used to be, also saves are a useless stat they don't mean anything. Fact is Santos has the best stuff of anyone in the BP hes off to a slow start some of it is most likely due to the frankly strange moves made with him in ST. Give him at least a few weeks to get his location down.

Santos is trying to hard and Im sure some of that can be attributed to the turnstile that is the Jays closer position. His stuff is good, he's made a couple mistakes early on. Im not ready to pull the plug on him yet.
That's what she said.

I think Santos is going to be fine.

I really don't like seeing these winnable games slip away in April. Hopefully it doesn't come back to bite us in September...games become far harder to win then.

Agreed, lets do a closer by committee. That worked out wonderfully last season. There is no precedent in the 120+ years of baseball history for successful teams having defined closers and set-up men.

Harder than 16 innings, 12 innings and the last two nights? Oh God, I'm not going to be able to take this season.

In September all games are 42 innings long and relievers are forced to pitch standing on one leg. When the Yanks play the Sox a weekend series takes 2 months. :D
