Good news for the Yankees, Kinsler only signed a 5 year 75 million dollar deal.
Cano cannot be asking for 200 million or 150 million, maybe 100 million

Re: Cano and his contract going forward
Phillips of the Reds gets 6 years 72.5 million.
I cannot see Cano getting more than 100 million

Re: Cano and his contract going forward
If Jose "Let me take myself out of the line up to win a title" Reyes can rape the Marlins for that kind of coin, believe me when I say, Scott Boras will demand significantly more from the Yankees. I see the deal between 130-150M over 6 seasons. Right now, 2B power hitters are a HARD commodity...
I don't see the Yanks doing a 9 year 200+M deal like Prince Fielder got from Detroit.

Cano might get his coin but the market is being set left and right by the Kinslers and Phillips of the world deals.
It's time for the Yankees to finally put a foot down and stop giving out the Jeter/Arod Contracts.

Re: Cano and his contract going forward
The market didn't dictate the Kinsler and Phillips deals, the single team and the single player did. The market is a bidding war where teams place their most attractive offers to lure a player. The market never got an opportunity to place their bids, because these players never got to hit free agency. Maybe if Kinsler had hit the open market, he could have received more than $75mil. Who knows? I hear the Blue Jays among others have a lot of money to spend.
You say that Kinsler and Phillips signing is good news. In fact, this is bad news. If Cano were to hit the market, teams that may be in need for a 2B, now have less backup options now that Kinsler and Philips who were impending free agents are signed. The market for a upper echelon 2B is now, just Cano.
We saw this with AJ Burnett. There wasn't much pitching on the market other than him and Sabathia, and thus just got straight overpaid.

How many teams can afford to give Cano big time money? You have to remember their are very few teams that can afford to give big time money to players.
Texas is off the list. Boston has Baldie. Braves gave big money to Uggla. Angels have money but have a ton of bad contracts. Maybe the Dodgers? Phillies are paying Chase Utley for the next couple of years and have their own bad contracts and Cole Hamels to re sign.
Not every team in baseball can be like the Yankees and have 15-20 million dollar players all over the field.

The same could be said for Jeter and A-Rod and look how much they got. This time around it will be interesting to see how serious Hal is in saving money.

The Marlins have money saved up that they were going to give give to Pujols.
The Cardinals with the money they were going to give Pujols.
The Dodgers are players now after new ownership took over.
The Blue Jays have tons of money (Alex Rios, Vernon Wells contracts gone) that they were going to give to Fielder but got outbid by the Tigers.
The Cubs have money now that Zambrano, Fukudome, and Aramis are off the books (combined almost $60mil/year). With hiring Theo, you know he isn't afraid to compete with the Yanks.
I honestly see Cano on the Marlins or the Dodgers if the Yankees don't resign him though.
