Post#1 » by fleet » Wed Apr 11, 2012 7:16 pm

Devin Hester made headlines last season with his amazing kickoff returns for big yards and touchdowns. NFL Live discusses the pros and cons of Hester not returning kickoffs for the Bears this season.

Know how that Hester guy is good at returning kicks? Yeah, let's have him *not* do that.

How is he at long snapping ?

He's actually not that great at returning kickoffs from a yardage standpoint. Both the new guys we signed average more yards as does Knox. Punt returns is where he is just wicked good.

Where's your round 2 entry Chewie?

It's just that ability to break the big one that I care about. A 20yd vs 23yd differential really doesn't matter to me as much.

Swamped @ work. More time for chippy comments than I do lately for investing thoughts on mock drafts or my round 2 entry. Will try but don't hate me if I can't....

He's not nearly as effective on kickoffs, so this is much ado about nothing, frankly.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Well he's taken 5 to the house in his career and the all-time NFL leader has just 3 more so I'd keep him back there but that's just me.

He arguably hasn't been the best kick returner in his Bear career. Knox and Manning were both better than Hester at kickoff returns, in my book. Add in Weems and Thomas, you have no need for Hester to pull triple duty.

Keep him as a punt returner where he thrives and develop his receiving skills.

Yeah, he isn't even the best kick off returner on the team. This isn't breaking news. Keep him on punt returns where he shines.
