Our offense actually does offer a good amount of free lancing, which is why it's more upon Wade to get the ball than somebody else passing it to him or putting him into the position to do so. The notion that LeBron's passiveness in the Finals was due to Wade's assertiveness and now vice versa is ridiculous. Wade attempted 21 shots last night, he still had a USG% of 28.5. When he was assertive in the 2nd quarter, he got the ball and he was playing good basketball.
In the 2nd half, most of his shot attempts were half-assed shots. In fact the only time he was himself again was with 2,5 minutes left in the 4th quarter. That's when you saw him drive to the basket two consecutive times and actually score.
While I agree that LeBron's USG% of 34.6 is too high, I'm not blaming him when nobody else steps up. He was just doing his part and trying to win the game by himself because nobody else felt the need to play hard. For the past month and a half I've been nothing but disappointed in Wade. Prior to the All-Star break, he was the mean scoring machine we all know and love, whether he played 30 or 40 minutes. People are trying to find solutions to fix his play, whether it's the crazy idea of benching him/limiting his minutes or giving him the ball more. Wade can easily be Wade in this offense when he wants to be Wade, when he has the right attitude and doesn't complain about fatigue or missed calls or what not. We've actually seen him be Wade last night in the 2nd quarter and towards the end of the 4th quarter when he was explosive, aggressive and motivated to win this game. In his case, it's mostly a mental problem. Wade has always been lazy at times, but it's never been as bad as in the Big Three era and there's a simple explanation for it.
This is by far the most talented team he's ever been on, so he believes he can afford to relax and coast that much more. It's not so much a matter of fatigue or being injured, it's just him being a lazy diva. In 08/09, he carried a bunch of **** to the playoffs while never complaining a single time and while battling an ugly divorce case off the court. I'm pretty sure that was much tougher on his body than this condensed schedule, yet he never complained as much as he does know. The guy just need a verbal slap to the face to have a little reality check.
So stop trying to make excuses or bash his qualities as a basketball player because if he wants to be great, if he wants to have big games, he can do so without a problem. The only person holding him back is himself and quite frankly, that attitude pisses me off.
I don't know, in that 3rd quarter I saw him demand the ball a few of times, only for it to swing to the other side of the court (and stay on that side) while he stayed with his hands on his knees and watched LeBron or Bosh try to get a shot off. That is a structural problem within the offense. I generally would prefer to see the style of offense that Boston has, where their entire big 3 will touch the ball on every possession, even if just to swing it and move the defense. So while I agree that he needs to demand the ball more (in fact I always found the talk about LeBron being passive because of Wade incredibly ironic because if anyone generally looks less aggressive and less involved in the offense than previously, its Wade) the offense as is still doesn't work for me. You don't acquire 3 stars just to ask 2 of them to diminish themselves to role players while you continue to ask the other to do everything he did before having a HOF teammate.
You're right that most of his shots in the 2nd half were half assed shot attempts. I attributed that to them being such long spells between when he got to touch the ball. If you go 3 possessions without getting the ball and then finally get it, you are more likely to throw up some junk just because you don't know when you'll get it again. Not saying its right because its definitely not, but its also nonsensical for me for that person to not touch the ball for so long after they just tore it up in the first half. He also didn't get the ball in the same position he was getting it in in the 2nd quarter when LeBron was out and he began to crush the Boston defense. Instead of being at the top of the key, he was off in the wings or on the baseline. In that play in the 4th that you're referring to, notice where he got the ball and the set up of the offense (spread) and then notice where he got it every other time in the half.
In terms of him complaining for calls. Everyone is correct that it is getting out of hand and he needs to just play the game. That play where he started back pedaling thinking that Boston wasn't going to break, was absolutely embarrassing and shameful. That said, I blame our coach as much as him. First of all, he needs to discipline Wade when he does crap like that, and on top of that, Spo needs to actually stand up for all of his players. Wade may cry like a little diva, but I know I am not the only one that has noticed the kind of contact being allowed on him this year. His complaints are often valid, just done at the dumbest times possible. I imagine its even more frustrating for him when that type of contact is let go on him but met with an immediate whistle for his teammate and/or for the other team. Spo needs to not hesitate to call both Wade and the officials out on their BS. Thats what coaches are for.
Finally, my biggest concern and now gripe with Wade is in fact his conditioning. I don't know if he is just being lazy or what, but his inability to play for more than 8 minutes at a time is alarming as we approach the playoffs. For a guy who has had to carry absolutely dreadful casts to the playoffs, its amazing to me how "winded" he suddenly always is, and how often he is now essentially just taking games off with "injuries" against inferior competition just because he now has a supporting cast that can handle those games without him. If Wade can't play 40 or so minutes a game in the playoffs, we are in a hell of a lot of trouble so he needs to focus on improving that aspect of his performance. If you ask me, a lot of it is mental and a lot of it is simply a bad habit Spo has been instilling in him all season long with those 30 minute games he was giving him.
