Nene become a less useful player 3-4 years from now.

Great point fishercob.
They should call it the Dan Snyder rule. That is basically what he does with signing bonuses and restructuring contracts when they are about to balloon. Different, but the same end result. Stretch it out.
So that issue should now be off the table.

Anyone read the SI profile on Javale? Pretty ineresting and funny stuff in there. The funniest to me is that Javale has an alter ego/comic strip character named Pierre McDunk lol.

Yes, what this means in practical terms is if the Wiz want to cut Nene when he has two years and $26M left on his deal, they can spread that cap hit over 5 seasons, or $5.2M per season.
If they want to cut him before his final year, they could spread that $13M over 3 seasons, or $4.33M per season.
It's not a complete "get out of jail free" card by any stretch (pardon the pun). But it could be quite useful if the rest of the cap is managed well. Having $4-$5M a year in "dead money" on the cap is far from ideal, but it's also not uncommon -- that money has traditionally just gone to guys on the roster (Arenas, Jamison, Lewis, Blatche, etc).

This is why he can never be taken seriously as a professional athlete.

It's not even close to a get out of jail free card. It's a terrible deal and I'd be shocked if the Wizards do it no matter how bad Nene plays. The only time I can envision a team using the stretch provision is if there's a real shot at landing a superstar with the cap room.
For example, if the amnesty provision was no longer permitted for Haywood, maybe Dallas would utilize the stretch provision on Haywood to clear up enough cap space for Howard.

Dallas can't stretch Haywood. You can only use it on guys signed during the new CBA.
I don't think it's a terrible deal under the right circumstances. It all depends on what the rest of your cap situation looks like, the number of rookie contracts you've got, etc.

I understand that. Haywood can be amnestied rather than stretched. I'm just saying Dallas is in the type of situation where it would make sense. Most teams are not going to want to have a phantom salary eating into their cap space for 3 or 4 years.
Basically, cutting a player who is owed salary is almost always a really bad move. You end up paying the player all the money; you end up suffering the entire cap hit (stretched or not); and once you cut him, there's no chance of at least using his salary as ballast in a trade.

Nick just keeps shooting blanks. He must be feeling some pressure out there.

If he is available at 4 to 5 million per year, I wouldn't mind the Wizards signing him.

Uh? He wanted 9 mil a year, team was offering a 2 year/$10 million deal IIRC, and he turned that down. Now he may not even get MLE money from someone.

We've turned the page. Let's keep it that way. I'd much rather have a Brandon Rush or Carlos Delfino than another go-round with Nick.

True. We got rid of two immature players who had all the opportunity in the world to grow into professional NBA players. They even had starting jobs. Neither listened enough to their coaches. Both though more of themselves then they actually earned.
As was mentioned earlier. Being pretty good on a bad team can lead to players getting the wrong sense of entitlement. Something Mo and Mason spoke about with this team. I don't see a lot of pieces remaining that feel entitled. Wall does but he was the #1 pick that came to a really bad team. Dray used to. I don't think he does anymore. That's it. Really, only Wall would fit that category. This is not to bash Wall, I'm just describing the team. I'm sure Nene could fit there but he has been a starter on a good team so he should feel that way some.
Everyone else is hungry and humble about what is ahead of them. You could move any play on this team from starter to back up except probably Wall and not hear a peek from them.

The Nuggets hiring Gregg Williams as an assistant coach is already paying dividends.

Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Nene has got to be the coolest dude to play for the Wizards in a long time.
He sounds like a Jamaican dude.

Dude is a beast in the game but smooth like cool Jazz in an interview.
At some point can we get the title of this thread changed.

Why not start a new thread about Nene, if that's what you mean. Doesn't seem fair for the first 77 pages of the Nene thread to be about the trade.

fishercob made a thread about him. It's probably a few pages back.
