i share the sentiments with those that believe a new coach is needed for next season. paul was great for what he agreed to do last season. he was the perfect coach for that team last year after LB was fired, someone who had respect in the NBA but at the same time would allow the players to play and let the young guys develop.
this year, obviously paul was dealt a crap team to work with, but he accepted the reality and was very professional this season. his attitude is commendable.
that being said, changes need to start happening sooner, rather than later. paul is perfect for a veteran team that knows how to play. he will give the players freedom, while still commanding professionalism. he will also allow younger guys to play without fear of being replaced. however, paul is not a the first coach anyone would think when you want to develop young talent. he isnt much of a teacher and isnt much of an xo's guy and he has always carried a staff that is very light on experience.
i think there are better coaches out there for what we will be trying to do in the upcoming few years, which is to develop talent, teach, install and offense that caters to kemba and our team speed. i dont think we can wait another year to get moving towards these goals. another year with silas will be more of the same in terms of boring offense, bad defense, little growth from the young guys and players seemingly not giving 100% every night.
we dont have to bring in an experienced high profile coach, although that would be nice. obviously there are many coaches who wouldnt even think of coming here now. however, i am sure there are still a bunch of ex-coaches and top assistants, maybe even some college coaches who are itching to get back in the league - even with the understanding that developing the young guys is the top priority.
paul, we thank you. you have been great. now go enjoy some fishing.
