Marion>>>>>>Peja on defense
Peja>>>>>>>Marion on offense
What would happen if you inserted a Peja-Marion hybrid in there: an athletic, defensive stud who can get to the rim and knock down threes?? That would be possibly the single greatest unit to ever play in the NBA.
Now think about this:
Terry ~ Nash
Kidd ~ Dudley
Marion/Peja ~ Gerald Wallace
Dirk ~ Frye
Chandler ~ Gortat
(sure, we lose the Dirk-Frye battle big-time, but we win Nash-Terry by just as much, and we win by hybriding Marion/Peja into Gerald Wallace. Their go-to plays were a Terry-Chandler pick-and-roll and a Terry-Dirk-Chandler staggered on-ball, both of which I think we can run at least as effectively as they did. In those plays, Dirk is a simple stretch-4.)
But the other beautiful thing about that core group is that we would have so much flexibility. It's easy to mix and match and go small with Wallace at the 4, or sit either Dudley or Wallace for a random shooting guard so that one of them can get run with the bench. Insert Markieff for Frye and Run Fry at the five with the 2nd unit. So many options.
Honestly, just stop. Your dreaming, I get it, you want the Suns to do well, but Gerald Wallace is NOT the answer. What we need is a GO TO scorer, possibly on the inside, and Gerald Wallace is neither. He's a great complimentary player, but I think the Suns are better off going the veteran route if they plan to re-sign Nash. Wallace is definitely a vet, but he doesn't bring what we need in terms of inside scoring, or a finisher.
Garnett and Allen, if they are available and willing to come here, would be the optimal pickups as has been said for months now. Both have looked great now that they're healthy, and our training staff can definitely help them stay healthier than any other can (do I need to explain any further?).
This off-season, we look to deal Chill + $3mil for capspace + 2nd or amnesty him. Buy out Warick. Re-sign Nash, Hill, and Brown. Add Garnett, Allen, and a 3rd string center (Gray?).
Nash/Telfair/Brown
Allen/Brown/Dudley
Hill/Dudley/Morris
Garnett/Morris/Frye
Gortat/Frye/Gray
There's a nice bunch of youth mixed in, and I haven't even added our pick to that depth chart because it's probably going to suck much as all our other picks (minus Morris) in the last 10 years.
