The only way we can tell for sure whether Jamario Moon is washed up is by bringing him in here.
Frankly if Rich Cho is everything advertised we should have been doing this type of thing months ago, these contracts are very cheap and you always have the chance that you find a keeper. We could have won just as many games with several d-leaguers and in my opinion should have!
No. Last time we found a d-league keeper we gave him a contract that was considered one of the worst 25 in the league. Then even after we traded him away we traded back for him.
It is extremely unlikely to find a player that will be a part of the rotation of a playoff team for years from the D-league. Someone is gonna overpay for Gerald Green and he is gonna have another Matt Carroll-like impact on that team

That is true with the draft as well. If they were easy to find, they wouldn't be valuable. The only way to really find those types is to get as many d-leaguers through here as possible. Jeremy Lin is likely to be a rotation player for several years, admittedly its very unlikely we find another, but the the only way we do that is through trial and error!
Its not that I especially like Jamario Moon, I just think bringing in one d-leaguer is better than bringing in none. We should have been doing this all season really, we wouldn't have been any worse and might have found someone useful!

Why the hate? I've been arguing that we should cycle D-Leaguers through on 10 days for months, since the "Fire Rod Higgins" thread when we stupidly guaranteed Corey Higgins' contract for the remainder of the season. The reason I was so bummed about the Moon choice is because I've been following the D League, even posting links in the "10 Day Contracts" thread about interesting players that I would much rather the Cats be taking a look at, notably Elijah Millsap and recently Brian Butch, a 6'11 Wisc grad who shoots as well as Mully but averages 10 rbs a game. On Thurs in a D league playoff game Butch had 32 pts and 15 rbs including 5-9 from 3 pt land. Why would you not want to take a look at him? Anyway, it's all a moot point. One aspect of signing Moon no one has mentioned is that instead of giving him a 10 Day contract like all the normal franchises in this league, the Cats up and signed him for the rest of the season.

Re: jamario moon a bobcat?
This seems about right. At this point you are either going to bring in someone who can play right away (to fill-in for injured players) or the other extreme and someone you want to grab up for next year. its hard to be disspointed in their moves after all these questionable moves. Usually a team as bad as the Bobcats starts to dump pieces by the trade deadline. Also, after they cut a guy who had been in the rotation they would usually add a younger player to take his spot.
This franchise needs to use the amnesty on Diop or Carroll just to get them off the roster.

How does that work when a player is a free agent with a player's option? If we amnestied one of them could he still use his option ? Personally I can't see paying Diop 7 million and he is not even going to knock people out of the air for us. Carroll is a great locker room guy, so I can't see paying him 6 mil to go away either. I honestly think the contract to amnesty is Tyrus's as he is sure to be picked up. Then we get a discount on that massive amount of money we owe him the next three years.

A player doesn't become a free agent until he declines the player option, so the contract would be null and void either way.
Only issue is if he had planned to decline anyway (which isn't going to happen), we wasted our amnesty on an expiring contract. Which really isn't an issue unless you're obsessed with using the amnesty for the sake of using it.
I think Carroll is going to retire after next year and probably get a job with the team. Diop; it depends. If he's healthy and plays well next year, he could get a Kwame Brown contract from a center-desperate team. If he doesn't play well, he'll probably get a training camp invite from Dallas. If we amnesty him, I think Dallas would pick him up for a million or two if they lose Mahinmi.

Re: jamario moon a bobcat?
Such a boring pick-up, the FO could have brought in someone who could generate some sort of buzz at least. A scorer who drops 20 a la that Hudson dude in Cleveland or Cartier Martin.
At least he seems to be catching up with the team rather fast - he looked as clueless on the court as everybody else.

Morris Almond would have been nice even though he's more of a 2. Wizards picked him up today.

This.
Diop and Carroll are expiring next year, no point using the amnesty. Just cut them, it would probably cost the same anyway.
TT is the long contract, give him the offseason to improve, if no vast improvements get rid of him.

I would like to know the reason behind picking this guy. I think silas wanted a veteran that already had been with the team.

Tyrus has already been given enough time to improve. He is entering the prime of his baskeball career putting up horrible numbers for a player drafted where he was and owed the kind of money he is owed.
How are you going to get rid of him without amnestying him. The only way anyone will take that contract is if we take back one similar. Just amnesty him, and get that horrible contract off of our books.
