Portland Trail Blazers guard Jamal Crawford will be courted intensely by the Phoenix Suns, a source within the organization tells CSNNW.com. “Aside from Steve (Nash), he's (Crawford) high if not the top free agent priority on their list,” the source said. “He would fill a need at the two-guard position and he knows they want him.

”Broadcaster for the Phoenix Suns, John Bloom, tweeted, "Jamal Crawford just told EJ on press row and Alvin Gentry on the sidelines that he "needs to be here in Phoenix" w/ Blazer teammates nearby."

I'm not sure why this hasn't occured to me until now, maybe it's just because we haven't seen him play in so long, but the Suns absolutely need to sign Mehmet Okur.

Having a potential second unit that includes:

PG - Telfair
SG - Brown
SF - Dudley
PF - Frye
C - Okur

Would be absolutely terrifying.

I've always liked Crawford. Always seemed to me that he was custom built to be a Sun. He makes the most sense if we don't think we can nab Allen.

Always nice to hear that a FA openly wants to play for you.

I would like someone who goes after an offensive rebound. We would need a dirty worker next to Okur/Frye.

I really don`t get the idea of Frye and Okur in the same lineup. They are basicaly same type of a stretch bigmen. As GH said, we`d need someone like Lou Amundson alongside one of them.

Isn't Crawford like 33 years old now?

Seriously if he's gonna be our starting 2 guard, I will puke. Guy can't play a lick of defense and him together with Nash would mean every guard in the NBA can just post up on the small guards.

I like Crawford but only as a 6th man (Barbosa) type role.

Ok, im not to thrilled with this whole Crawford business. I read reports that he is the first player we go after, and i dont like the sound of that. Only way i would is if we surrounded Nash/Crawford with defenders, so here is my idea.

Step one in this "Re-Tooled" team is to amnesty Childress. Look, we are building a contender so Nash's final years arnt wasted. Riding ourselves of Childress's contract is a must and is why the owners fought for an amnesty clause.

Ok, go ahead and sign Crawford to a 3 year, $15M deal ($5M per season). Now Crawford shoots the ball at a good rate, but doesnt defend or rebound, so we need to find a FA SF that can do both. Enter Gerald Wallace. Sign this man up for a 4 year $50M. Wallace is a phenomenal defender and the best rebounding small forward. Both Crawford and Wallace heave chemistry, stemming from their time in Portland together. Makes it a bit easier for them to blend in to our starting 5. Once we land Wallace it makes it easier to land the next player on my list, Kevin Garnett.

Gerald Wallace is one of KG's favorite players (KG has often cited how Wallace plays the hardest in the NBA.. high praise). Garnett knows that BOS is looking at blowing up the Big 3 and rebuilding around some youngsters, this gives him the opportunity to make another run to gain a ring (or 2). Judging from comments on the Boston Board, it looks like he will be looking at a 2 year deal, around $5M a season. Give him that, i'd offer him up to $6M a year.

Now that the starting 5 is set, time to secure our bench. Re-sign Michael Redd 2 year $2M. Re-sign Grant Hill 2 year $5M. Both feasible deals, Redd is getting about $250K more than he did this season, and Hill will be getting about half of what he did, but now his role is smaller as well, as he would be coming off the bench. Re-sign Telfair to a 2 year $3M deal.

Sign Brandon Roy to a 2 year $2M deal (2nd year team option). It gives him another shot in the NBA, on a contender, where he wont have to log heavy minutes.

Nash/Telfair
Crawford/Dudley/Redd
Wallace/Hill/Roy
Garnett/Morris/Warrick
Gortat/Frye

Wallace - $12M
Nash - $8M
Gortat - $7.2M
Frye - $6M
Garnett - $5M
Crawford - $5M
Warrick - $4.6M
Dudley - $4.2M
Hill - $2.5M
Morris - $2M
Telfair - $1.5M
Roy - $1M
Redd - $1M

That's a perfect outcome, Kerssed. The best thing is, it doesn't even seem that hard, you show this plan to every player we look to sign, and there is no way thay say no to it. Let's hope our FO will try something similar.

Not too bad Kerrsed.

First, Telfair is already signed for next year, so we don't have to re-sign him. And I would just start Dudley at the two, and not re-sign Redd, if we are going for Crawford. I like the Garnett signing, but like you said, Boston will try to lock him up, and let Ray go elsewhere. This idea also hinges on Wallace opting out of his current contract, and Sarver ponying up $21 million for Chilldress, plus whoever we sign with that cap space.

Plus I could see some teams looking for a sign and trade, wanting picks from us for those big names. But overall, not too bad.

The funny thing is we will have three ex-blazers, four if you count Frye. :D

Isn't Redd == Crawford??

I don't know why we would need to pay Crawford $5M when his shooting percentage is abysmal.

Nash $10M
Redd $2M
Wallace $13M
Garnett $10M
Gortat $7M

Telfair (WTF are we thinking) $1.5M
Dudley $3M
Hill $2M
Morris $2M
Frye $6M

That extra $$ we save by not paying Crawford can go Nash, Garnett, and Wallace to give the extra enticement we need. Cost for this lineup is right at $58M ... the expected salary cap.

I dont buy the Crawford interest/rumor. This FO hasnt said a peep since gumflapper Kerr left... We knew nothing of any deal they have done till after it was done.

Doesnt make any sense they'd start leaking now. This is a hype job orchestrated by Crawford, his agent, and a story thirsty reporter.... IMO.

As far as that fantasy by Kerrsed, you are going to have to pony up to get Garnett to move. Ainge isnt about to be outdone or out foxed... he's going to have to be outbid...substantially. Boston has a load of cap space, 2 draft picks, Rondo/Avery/Pierce to offer KG for his swan song. What do we have ? ... I cryogentic deep freeze machine. Crazy thoughts thinking KG will take a paycut to come here to contend. Boston will be attracting FAs to go there.

I could see us interested in Wallace though ... at least I hope we are. But he's likely 10 mill per as several will talking to him. He makes just about every team better.

PS ... I see the Bfoot has chimed in with some adjustments.

There's a wiretap thing saying Ainge tried to trade both Allen and Pierce before the deadline but the deals fell through. I don't think they are overly-hyped on trying to retain Garnett. I like the idea of getting Garnett because he's more of a pick-and-pop guy while Gortat can run the PnR so this would keep the court spread out well enough, and I could see a lineup of Nash-Dudley-Wallace-Garnett-Gortat being one of the most efficient five player units in the NBA, while our bench could be equally effective against the opposing teams bench.
If Garnett declined an offer to the Suns, I guess our second option could be Hickson/Randolph, but I question both of those guys mentality, and the idea of those guys in the playoffs frightens me a little bit.

I agree that a lineup of nash -maybe crawford?or gordon? or allen?- dudley-markieff-and gortat. would be a really potent offensive and possibly above average defensive lineup as well!My only question is, If the celtics were to trade only one or two of their big 3 in order to start over, then which player or players would that most likely be?

My gut tells me that they would prefer to keep garnett most overall, mainly due his recent resurgence, and defensive lockdown abilities on the other premiere bigs of the league. but I could very easily be wrong on this one too!Still would love to have him though. Even though he is really a major ass clown when it comes down to it.But maybe in the end, that could be just what this team needs.

Screw mayo and Gordon.

Let's sign Crawford to the lowest price we can for a two year deal next year

Draft Terrence jones

See if we can package Dudley and frye for a PF

Wait till 2013 and offer JAMES HARDEN a max deal

2013

Nash, 2013 rookie pg
Harden, Crawford
Jones, FA sf
Pf from trade, Morris
Gortat, Lopez

To make specific plans for Harden is silly. Having adequate space in 2013 is realistic.

For this yr though.....All indications say Boston will not keep their 3 vets... and Allen looks like the odd man out. It will at least take a 2 yr deal to land him... and may be a third yr player/team option. For how much I do not know.

You add Allen and Nash stays. Then find a toughguy banger PF and we might have something to hope for.

Humphries ? Illyasova ?

Seems to me, we need an upgrade at PF and SG.
