Stern says No to Benson on Getting Jazz Name But....

Post#1 » by retiredcoach » Mon Apr 16, 2012 11:17 pm

Stern told Benson no deal on getting the Jazz name, but it appears he's going to give the 2014 All Star game to New Orleans.

They just had it in 2008. When does Utah get it again? Hey Stern, you want to help those small market teams?

The Jazz will get it again when they build a new arena... so not any time soon. Have you been to ESA lately? You think the NBA wants to host the All-Star game in that place?

Stern has said before that they will NEVER hold another All-Star game in Slat Lake City. Said the weather made it a no-go.

The ASG in New Orleans is all part of selling the team to the new owner. Guarantee that it was an under the table part of the deal.

NO does not get the Jazz name, but now Charlotte is interested in getting their Hornets name back. That would be a decent move by Charlotte.

That would be a headache as far as recognizing franchise records/lineage, since the Charlotte Hornets wouldn't actually have the history of the Charlotte Hornets.

Where did he say this?

Probably about three or four years ago. Stern was in town for a Jazz game and was asked about the possibility of another All-Star game in Utah. Stern said something along the lines of... "While the game was a success, unless the weather in Salt Lake during February changes... but Jazz fans are some of the best fans in the world!"

Does anyone else remember this? Tried to find the quote, but everything right now is related to the original thread topic.

The NBA wants it to be a destination type event and not a local event. It will be in warm cities and New York from here on. It has never been in Toronto. Since 2005 it has not been in a typically snowy city.

Let's tell them that we will give their name back, if they force the Warriors to win their last game of the season against NO. jk

I always thought when the Jazz moved to Utah that they should have been renamed right away to either the Saints or Pioneers... something along those lines. It would have made perfect sense.

Ugh. I Love SLC and SLC Sports but that would have really turned me off, particularly Saints. If only the Utahraptor was discovered 25 years earlier.

We've never met and aren't likely to meet, but I understand the new owner of the New Orleans NBA franchise is interested in acquiring the team name that belongs to Utah's NBA franchise — namely "Jazz" — and for the life of me I can't understand why we don't let him have it.

This is sad that it is even getting mentioned by our so called "sports" writers. We are in the midst of making a run at the playoffs and this is the articles that are being written?
