He has 3 years left (after this one) and about 60 million.

We have enough capspace to absorb his big contract this summer. Do we do it?

Adding Amare, and adding a decent FA, as well as our rookie would make us contenders next year IMO.

Gortat/Lopez
Amare/Morris
Hill/ Dudley
FA /Redd
Nash/Telfair

his brother was killed and he doesnt fit next to Melo. Amare would be good on the Bulls or Suns. I wish he went to the Bulls instead of Boozer that team would be nasty

Even when the knicks started playing defense Stat was still underperforming
Still hasn't committed to rebounding
I'd rather have Millsap, honestly

If we added Amare I don't think we'd be able to sign any good FAs

We have enough room for two max contracts, so if we have Amare we would have around 7-9 million left. (Just guessing). Should be fine for a pretty decent player.

No joke - serious here. What would NY pay get someone to take Stat's contract?

Straight up though, Amar'e is not worth that money. He's not Garnett or Duncan.

I'd rather take a flier on Gordon + Mayo/Batum/Ilyasova/whoever else is "hot" right now

over no-effort no-rebounds no-clutch Amare

We've been down this road before.

We've been down the road before? amare was an awesome player on the suns! What are u talking about?

Let's take on amare contract and sign mayo

Nash Telfair
Mayo Dudley
Terrence jones (draft) hill
Amare morris
Gortat frye

That is a top team even when Nash leaves

^We've grown tired of his invisibility on the defensive end and boards, you know? The other 50% of the game.

:nonono: I'm so tired of the Amare-Gortat frontcourt idea. Fit matters, people.

I looked it up: Amar'e has been very successful offensively at the 5, no doubt. But both seasons in recent memory when he had to share the paint (T.Chandler, Shaq) he's actually had a NEGATIVE offensive RAPM score. (i.e. the offense was better with him not on the court.)

Out of the 292 units that have played at least 200 minutes over the last five years:
Lin-Fields-Melo-Amar'e-T.Chandler comes in at #279 in Off Rtg: 99.8

The lone Knicks unit in the top 100?
Felton-Fields-Gallinari-W.Chandler-Amar'e -- Off Rtg: 114.6

Now, which unit has more offensive "talent"?
Fields=Fields
Amar'e=Amar'e
Lin>Felton
Melo>Gallinari

Which only leaves the Chandlers. Tyson was the center on the #3, #9, and #19 units on this list, so obviously he's been part of incredibly successful offenses.

CAN YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN FIT?!?

lin is not better than felton. he had a handful of games

felton was playing good for the Knicks in d'antoni system

I would take Wilson chandler and Gallo over Carmelo any day.

Its not about a superstar its about a team fitting together like you said

wilson, Gallo, Amare , felton fit better together then this knicks team will ever!

Knicks units that have played at least 100 minutes together over the last two years, net points per 100 possessions:

Maybe a team with cap space would take Amare if they sweetened it with Jeremy Lin. He'd be a huge money maker for anyone.

Guys, I'm as hopelessly romantic as the next guy, but the Amare ship has sailed.
