They're Viacom. They are far more rich than Zuffa. I don't think front-loading the contract would matter much to them. Although some businesses just won't spend money before they are generating it in revenue.

Viacom would have to make a committment to spending cash that they may not have wanted to. Being owned by a massive entity is meaningless if they have a tight budget and "we're going to spend like UFC on talent with Bellator revenues" won't open Viacom's wallet.

Spang was being douchey at the weigh-in, btw. Hopefully Rogers punishes him for his insolence.

I don't think the UFC cares all that much if Bellator matches on Lombard or not. It is a win-win for them. If Bellator passes, then the UFC steals one of Bellator's top guys. If Bellator matches, then the UFC has forced them to overpay for a guy they would have had a lot cheaper had the UFC not gotten involved.

The website said the stream started 10 mins ago but I log in 10 mins ago and see a fight ending in the 4th round. Weird.

Cannot believe Woodard literally ran towards Hawn with his hands down at his knees. WTF. I like Woodard but its hard for me to sympathize with stupidity. Literally just running at him, what was he planning? Also clinched with him twice iirc, WHY? JUDO OLYMPIAN.

GODDAMN it every single fighter that I want to win tonight has lost. PLease Eddie come through.

For Spang to be hyped as a technical boxer all week, he didn't really take advantage for most of the fight. There were a couple of times that I thought Rogers could have pressed and won but was tired from throwing big shots that Spang was just absorbing. That said, you could tell he was looking for the counter all fight, and that's what he got. Yikes.

Oh, and you put a **** degenerate like Falcao in the cage with a hothead like Spang who almost started a pre fight with one of the nicest dudes around in Rogers, and what do you expect to happen? Considering the fact that they were showing replays though, doesn't seem like they minded too much.

Lorenzo and Rogan both tweeting at Alvarez about last night. I think there is a good chance that he's gone. Just because from the interviews I heard with Rebney recently, I got the impression that he didn't necessarily think that either Alvarez or Lombard were more likely to stay than the other.

That said, I think it would be more prudent to keep Alvarez than Lombard for bellator. Additionally, Alvarez will get better fights in bellator than Lombard would have. But I don't think Eddie wants to go through the tourney, so I'm thinking ufc.

This is where we find out what Bellator is made of. Can they keep their elite fighters from jumping ship? And if not, can they continue to sustain with the UFC plucking their best fighters?

I have serious doubts that Bendo would beat Chandler, Alvarez, Melendez, or Pettis in their rematch. And Bendo of course was in a major organization himself before joining UFC. Bendo is just a guy who is big and tries really hard but his skill, creativity, and movement are average. Those latter factors win out in the end.

With the level of LW divisions that can be built outside the UFC, I don't really care to see Alvarez in the UFC. I just want to see good fights, and he's gotten a couple of them recently in Bellator, and he'd continue to get them if he stayed. A rematch with Chandler would be epic. So would a fight with Hawn. Michel looks good, and should have been awarded the victory last night. Hawn made Tirloni look bad. He was tied with Bendo when he got guillotined in their fight. Guys as good as Freire, Woodard, and Weedman are just gatekeepers, which reflects well on Bellator. Prospects like Brooks, Shockley, and Sarnavskiy (imminent signing as soon as M-1 takes their chains off him) are very promising. Their WW division has gotten really deep and a few of those fighters could drop to a weight that's more suited to their body type like Hawn did. The division is only going to improve after their transition to Spike.

If Bjorn pays him, especially before his final fight in the org to provide insurance against him losing, Eddie should stay. And from what Eddie has been saying, he doesn't care where he fights, just that he gets paid and continues to be in major matches. As far as the former Bjorn appears willing satisfy him and the latter he's not averse to going back through the tourney as previously believed. http://mmajunkie.com/news/28355/bjorn-rebney-hints-bellator-66-winner-eddie-alvarez-will-remain-with-promotion.mma

That was a vicious left hook from Spang, jeez! Muscled it too.

Aoki put up zero fight there, wtf was that? Didn't try to secure guard at all and his team almost immediately threw in the towel. what's the deal?

any audience cams of the Falcao / Spang scrapping? I wonder if the AC suspends them. It seems appropriate.

Hawn's also with Zahabi in Montreal. They are a stacked team at the lower weights now.

RZ, I think you'll get a kick out of this (although I thought the same about the Rothwell gif):

"I didn't understand what was happening," Falcao said. "I thought he was going to assault me, so I reacted to defend myself. I had no other intention. I think he failed to live up to the role of an athlete since many people, many children were watching and in attendance. What he did was ugly, very ugly. As a Brazilian athlete, I felt sad over it."

I still think Falcao is a dirtball, he has about as much self awareness as Ron Artest. Also, his holding the cage in the 2nd round and ending up on top because of it may have won him that fight.

That said, Spang is the douche here imo. Falcao even pulled his punch at the end which was shocking.

I agree, but for Falcao to make those comments, given his history, is pretty freaking ironic and hilarious. Next thing we know Mike Kyle is going to tell people to show some class.

REDDzone wrote:Also, his holding the cage in the 2nd round and ending up on top because of it may have won him that fight.

It did. The top position and subsequent ground and pound was the sole reason he won the 2nd round. Even in spite of the damage he did the last minute and a half, about half of observers thought Vasilevsky still prevailed. I don't agree if you ignore the foul. But taking that into account, Vasilevsky showed he was the better fighter. So did Michel against Weedman. And Ratinho against Nakamura. And Indio against Baker. It's a shame, in many of the tourney matches this season, the better fighter didn't advance. Although, only in the Michel and Vasilevsky fight can you blame the officials. Ratinho and Indio more beat themselves. But losing all this talent has taken some luster away from the tournaments.

Oh, I agree with your comment about Falcao's history, that was the self awareness part of the post. My stream kept cutting out 10 seconds before every round ended, so I couldn't tell if he threw any cheap shots past the bell this time out. If he didn't at all, that would be a Falcoa first, at least of the fights I have watched.

Ratings not looking good for this past event. Shame, really. Great card on paper and delivered in the cage.
