Re: James Singleton is the 5th best PF in the NBA
if I recall correctly, isn't he looking for significant playing time? If we Draft Robinson or Davis we'd have to trade away multiple bigs to accommodate that. Or maybe getting older will make him resort to taking w/e financial security he can find. Pride can only carry you so far...

He was good 2 years ago and he's good now.
Letting him go the year Jamison got traded was one of the dumbest moves Ernie Grunfeld has made during his tenure here. The guy was a great influence on our 2 dumbass bigman, and it's no surprise that Blatche played the best ball of his career when Singleton was a part of this team. I thought back then that Grunfeld not bringing him back as a veteran mentor was extremely idiotic.

He's 31? Wow, I thought he was in his late twenties. I said 12/4 in the other thread, but I might have gotten a bit carried away. IF we don't draft Davis or Robinson, I would offer 8/3, with the third year a team option.

Another strategy would be to go ahead and draft Robinson, sign James Singleton, regardless. Move Booker for SF and a move-up in the draft scenario.
I would trade Booker and the #32, just to get the Blazers' second lottery pick. I would consider adding a conditional 1st.

Do the blazers do this? Booker's tendons would snap and his muscles separate from the bone the second he put that jersey on.

Hell yeah I miss Booker.
But I missed Singleton before I missed Booker.
It's nice that we have both. I just hope we can bring both into camp next year.

I'm not really looking for some big free agent bonanza anyway. I don't see any of the bigshots coming to DC until the team proves it can win without them. [That's what the star free agents want now -- to be the final piece of the puzzle, not the centerpiece of the whole thing.] I'd like to see the Wiz get one of the top three picks in the draft, bring back Singleton and probably Martin, too, and get improvement from Wall, Crawford, Vesely, Seraphin, Booker. Have Nene around for 70 games next year. With Singleton rounding out a suddenly deep front court, that's a team that should jump up in the standings a bit.
It might be tough. If we don't amnesty Blatche, we'll have just $5M in cap room. We need a SF who can shoot even more than we need a fifth big man. Singleton might cost $3 or $4M (though hopefully on a one-year deal). If we sign him, the best we can do at SF is a Cartier Martin type of player.
If we want a true starting caliber SF like Danny Green or someone, then we might not be able to retain Singleton.
There's also a concern that Singleton might not want to play here where there is such a log jam up front.
You know the solution to that don't you.

Ok, in your last two posts you have Booker and James at SF.
Where the hell you been while I have been tossing these ideas out there and having Nate jump on me about how neither can play SF.

Between the two, I think James could pull it off easier and considering how bad we need one and how much I like our other players, that is where I have slotted him if we bring everyone back. He has add range to his shooting and he has slimmed down. I wouldn't be surprised if slimming down was on purpose because he knows he was viewed as an undersized PF in the NBA so he wanted to add flexibility to his options.
This goes along with my Beal strategy and new back up PG.
Wall/PG/Mack
Crawford/Beal/Mason/Almond
Singleton/Martin/Singleton
Nene/Booker/Dray
KS/Ves/Dray
That gets us through next year. Then you re-evaluate going into the trade deadline. Any of those SF can start as long as Singleton is getting 25 minutes a game.

Had a chance to speak for a moment or 2 with JSing last night at 6 Flags.
He's pretty confident in his shooting range ie 3 pt shot at this time.
I would not be surprised to see him continue to take and make 3s
in these remaining games.
He described himself as a completely different player than the
one that was here the first time.
He was very personable. I really like this guy and told him
I REALLY hoped he would be with us next year.

If really can shoot with range, I think you can throw him out there with Booker or Vesely and not worry too much about who is the SF and who is the PF.

Interesting point - since Booker and Vesely can probably guard 3's. It's great hearing about JSing's shooting, but I'll need to see more of it before I'm confident in it. If he shows 3 point range, he's an interesting asset. Too bad for him he didn't develop that years ago - but better late than never.

I'm sure Singleton will continue to shoot 67% on long 2s.
