Vesely brings hustle, energy, athleticism, a good basketball IQ to the lineup, so there's a lot to like about him, but where he was drafted will never make sense to me. The class from which Vesely was drafted wasn't the deepest as far as talent went, but it doesn't change the fact that Vesely was overdrafted for at the spot; drafted outside of the lottery or even just outside of the top ten and Vesely's great value given what's now known about his game. Unless he ingests some magic pill that grants him the shooter's touch, Jan Vesely will never be the first scoring option for the Wizards, will never be the second, and may never be the third. In my opinion the 2011 draft was a blown opportunity for the Wizards to land an elite or semi-elite talent high in the draft.
The Wizards better get out of this business of drafting mere running mates for John Wall heading into this year's draft and go with the more complete prospect this time around or this rebuild may be looked back at as a big disappoinment.

Re: Wizards Overdrafted for Jan Vesely.
we have a whole thread for Ves, the czech bounce
as for your argument, you may turn out to be right. Or not.
Let's see how badly Bosh rips him these 2 games coming up.
He's just a rook so Bosh should own him if things go according to
MIA's plan.
Ves was never drafted to be a leading scoring option 1st or 2nd or even 3rd.
He's going to be a Rodman type player who, hopefully, affects the game without
much scoring. At least that is what he is showing signs of being right now.
The more I think about it, the more I like the comparison. That said, Rodman was a 2nd rnd
pick that came in and was not the crazy rebounder he ended up being. But he was
effective with his energy and hustle. The optimists are hoping that is what Ves ends
up like.

If only we had purchased overdraft protection.
Perhaps we could have Kawhi Leonard and that $15 service fee back

What they're saying is: Consider first whether your opinion requires an entirely new thread. Or are you just holding up a sign on a street corner hoping to be noticed. Usually if you articulate an interesting take you will get responses and spur conversation. Conversation, spirited debate, is the lifeblood of this board. Otherwise, imagine all responses to your thread required entirely new threads. It would be worse than mayhem, it would be the Knicks board. Otherwise stick around, you make interesting points at times and ought not to simply get locked and ignored.

It also helps if when you first meet people that you don't come across negative when you first walk in the room.
But if that is your thing stick around, there is a herd of that type here you may find fun.

Nonsense, announcing your arrival upon a certain stage with a well crafted polemic is practically an American institution. Nevertheless we are quite attached to our elephantine threads and even mostly read them. So welcome aboard, I guess, as this has become a makeshift introduction thread, and go ahead and rail mercilessly against whatever the hell in whichever thread is appropriate.
I'm partial to your eschewing running mates point myself; I'm not entirely opposed to being mindful of fit during the draft and roster construction in general but I do agree that there are limits to that approach and Vesely may have been an instance where they were exceeded.
