Let me say this about that. I commonly have a mental correction for players in the Coach Cal Dribble Drive Motion offense. The system tends to post 4 perimeter players on slashing attack so the single Big has more opportunities for interior play on dump offs and the like. Joey Dorsey for instance surely benefitted from defenses that were loaded up trying to defend the perimeter. Ditto Big Cuz. (It also tends to inflate TOs for guards a little and reduce their rebound totals which penalizes them in the eyes of the Win Score dingleBerris. Coach Cal doesn't strictly want his guards rebounding since he wants them ready for transition, ether pushing it up or defending against same.. And as far TOs he lives with allowing his players to make their own plays instead of a Flip Saunders like anal retentive control diagramming and calling plays on every possession).

This year I wouldn't say the offense was necessarily flipped on it's head forcefeeding the post. The team was too talented for that. Balanced attack across the court. That offensive efficiency of Davis is testament less to his dominance and more to his intelligence. He made the plays he had to, passed out instead of forcing it if he wasn't the right option. I'm saying we have no real idea about the outside limit of his offensive ability, since he himself never pushed it much. But I do believe if he needs to learn a skill to improve his utility on the floor, he'll do so. As for points I wouldn't guess he'd score much more than 12 or 13 a game, but I expect his +/- will be noteworthy, even on a team with Seraphin and Nene if we're so lucky.

The tank still on? We have 3 games left and New Orleans has a 3 game lead on us we need to lose one more game or they have to win one more game

Let's forget for a moment about players' "value" and where they are selected. Simply, Beal, as a basketball player, is the antithesis of Nick Young, and Beal can shoot and score. Beal has a complete game, and maturity that is much-needed in Washington. Beal gives John Wall a permanent backcourt partner, one who should be a great shooter and a defensive demon -- both outstanding complements to Wall's talents and his weaknesses as a shooter.

Beal also can play some small forward, allowing the Wizards to play Jordan Crawford alongside Wall for a potentially high-scoring guard trio late in games. Now, does Beal deserve to be drafted second over players like Kidd-Gilchrist or Robinson? Perhaps not. If all these prospects reach their potential, Beal likely finishes behind them. But that is not a guarantee. What is a guarantee is Beal's very low risk and his very high likelihood of being an excellent guard, and maybe a future All-Star, who impacts the game in all three areas.

That is pretty much exactly what my line of thought was when I saw the kid. Only then he was like 12th in the draft. As he moved up I got exited knowing he would be in reach. Now we are talking 2-5 so is that to high for him ? Who knows. But I agree that the risk of him not being a good value is low. But he does seems more the quiet level headed kind. Mature. Calm.

Now just from reading stuff about MKG, I guess he has more leadership skills. That would give him the edge in draft order. But for the Wizards, is that more important that a SG who is likened to a young Ray Allen who can defend and also play some SF ? Tough call. Hard not to go with Beal. But it seems like MKG would be nice to have also.

We beat them the only time we played them this season so we can't finish equal.

They have clippers, warriors and Houstan.

We've got Bobcats, Cavs, and Miami last game....wouldn't surprise me if Miami were to rest James wade and bosh for that game.

THE TANK IS STILL IN DOUBT!

I'm pretty sure there aren't tie breakers for lottery position. If we end up tied for 2nd worst, we would divide the total number of ping pong balls for 2nd and 3rd. There's a coin flip for second round position and if the number is odd.
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

I've always thought there's a coin flip for lottery...?

The coin flip might be needed to decide the first round position too, if neither team gets a top 3 pick. IIRC, the team that ends up with the worse first round position gets the better second round position as a consolation prize.

They split the lotto balls in the event of a tie. The winner of the coin flip picks higher if neither team actually lands a top 3 pick. The winner of the coin flip also gets the extra lotto ball if there is an odd number. The loser of the coin flip gets the higher 2nd round pick.

I don't think the Wizards have a leadership vacuum anymore. With McGee, Blatche and Young gone, and Nene, Booker and Seraphin taking over the locker room, the team is in good hands. Wall could probably use a veteran counterpart at backup PG.

Nivek, have you already done Rudy Gay?

We need to pull out another loss. If we beat Charlotte and Cleveland and Miami, we still have a chance to drop a slot in the lotto.

What is the consensus here between Beal and Gilchrist? I've still got mixed feelings there.

I think New Orleans will win at golden state

Not that I want to answer my own question, but I do recall watching Florida v Kentucky and seeing Beal penetrate with some success, against Gilchrist. I suspect Beal is going to test out well in the speed and quickness drills. Just not the best vertical athlete. He is a bit of a sneaky athlete.

Me too, as I see Golden State is doing a much, much better job driving their tank than we are.

The consensus outside of this board, is that we'll pick MKG at 2, and at 3 and 4 we'll look at Beal, and Drummond, Beal probably the priority target. At #4 we'll be looking at Drummond is my guess. At #5 it will be Robinson. At #6, we're totally screwed unless someone reaches, which is why it is imperative that we drive the tank well these past 3 days. I hate sweating this out.

There are some decent Gilchrist and Beal clips in this clip. Check out Beal's athleticism at 1:21, and his alley-oop pass at 45 sec.

I think I've talked myself into Beal. You draft him, plug him in, and expect to swing and miss on Batum and Anderson in FA.

I would still try to get Harden in FA. There are definitely 32-35 minutes available for each. I think Beal has the length and strength to defend at the 3 a bit. A small lineup with Wall, Harden, and Beal at the same time could be very difficult to defend in transition and in the half court.

I wouldn't go after Anderson if we get Beal. I would still go after Batum and Harden, though. This is the kind of team I could see playing greater than the sum of its parts, and the parts would be pretty good to start with. We would just need another decent wing off the bench.

Starters:

Wall
Beal
Batum/Harden
Vesley
Nene

Bench Mob:

Crawford
Wing Player
Booker
Seraphin

I've completely given up on Batum. Portland is going to match any offer so there's no way to get him.

The odds of our getting Harden are equally poor. Both are scenarios where we would be stealing a young, good player, who everyone else in the league wants, and who the original team has rights over. How many times, if ever, has this happened? But it's still worth pursuing, even if the odds are low, whereas I don't really see the point in pursuing Anderson. He's good but not THAT good, and I would like to see how Vesley plays next year before declaring PF a gaping whole. SG and SF are clearly dire needs.

Well the Harden scenario is unique, because they'd need to extend Ibaka as well, which might be very difficult financially.

I like the idea of going after Harden, but I'm concerned about what happens if OKC matches our offer and we don't get him. Where do we go from there? I'm pretty sure if we don't sign a max or near max contract player either this offseason or next then we're not going to be able to.

So if we don't sign a max FA this offseason, all our eggs are in one basket for 2013. If we offer Harden but then OKC matches, who do we turn to next?

Josh Smith? Al Jefferson? Paul Millsap? Serge Ibaka? Dare I say it... Dwight Howard?

I think the Wizards need to draft well and save their money. Let the guys they already have compete next season.

James Singleton and Cartier Martin are serviceable backups. Mo Evans can certainly still play pretty well. The odds are against Morris Almond making the team (but don't let that discourage if you read this forum). The big picture is that Martin, Evans, and Almond can each hit a three and provide a spark off the bench. Singleton is an energy player and he's got some range. James is giving play much better than Yi Jianlian did. He's playing better than Fabricio Oberto. He's certainly better than Hilton Armstrong. The SG/SFs are all better than Quinton Ross.

nate, I'm not sure Danny Green is much better than Martin or Evans if they had starter's minutes. Cartier has played on some crappy teams and none of them until this season had a good big man. The Wizards suddenly have two. Martin is going to get a lot more open looks and his percentages are going up.

I like what I have seen from Cartier and James Singleton each of their two stints with the Wizards. I don't really see the need to pay other guys a lot of money who might not be significantly better than these two players. Who knows that Almond cannot do as well or better, too.
The Wizards shoukd have drafted Derik Queen

I told you so :banghead:
