League commish shouldn't tamper w/ the decisions made by a team's designated GM after the fact, so moot point. The point in negotiations is to be as shrewd and forward thinking as possible, not to help the other guy any more than necessary.

He was also the acting owner of the Hornets, so he had every right to veto a trade he didn't think made the team he owned at the time, better. You'd have a point if the league dind't own the Hornets at the time, but they did so.. and on top of that all the other owners in the league bought the team so he had to do what was best for the team he owned AND because the rest of the league owned the team, he had to do what was best for the league, and that wasn't.

Kinda sad that Laker fans want to hang their hat on this one bad thing that has happened to them just because it has been the only bad thing that has happened to them in so long. Try going through a rebuilding phase ONCE, since the Lakers hardly ever have to.

Kobe wasn't injured on that play....It makes a difference. That, and you're completely ignoring the fact that Ron Artest has a history of being an idiot, Raja Bell not so much.

MWP has some serious mental problems. There is no surprise this happened.

Lakers trainers cleared him to play. OKC just played it safe. He's not injured. And give me a break, the Malice happened 8 years ago

Wow. We're not in MMA here. Dude risked serious head injury and you want a 1 game suspension? Come back to reality. 10 should be a min.

10 minimum for that? He didn't go charge at the guy and deck him in the face with a punch. It was a dirty elbow shot after they inadvertently bumped into each other. I don't mind if you think maybe it should be about 3-4 games (so he has to miss a few playoff games too), that's fine. But you're saying 10 games at the absolute minimum? I wouldn't even say 10 is a legitimate max suspension for that (only reason why it COULD get somewhere close to that would be because of MWP's history). Some are making it out to be worse than it was.

You have to look at the player's history. Raja Bell, aside from that incident, doesn't have a lot of incidents involving throwing elbows or deliberately hurting others. It doesn't happen that the Malice was 8 years ago, Artest was suspended an entire season for that, not to mention numerous other incidents.

If this were, say, George Hill, I don't think many people would call it out to be a 10+ game suspension. But Artest has a history of this

by the way, are you a doctor on the Thunder medical staff? How can you reasonably say that he's not injured or that OKC played it safe?

To everybody saying it was unintentional or is defending Artest/MWP:

If that was you in Harden's position, you would NOT be saying the same thing.

That is a guarantee.
Dammit...:

I've got Nurkic fever now.

Less games than the number Harden will miss because of a concussion.

Seriously, any possible Stern reaction that makes a move like this a good strategic choice is not an option. I really question whether some people have any ability to see this from the league's perspective.

This is exactly the thing to worry about,

I actually don't think Ron Artest saw him. He really didn't have any reason for doing that. I'm looking forward to what he has to say on the post-game interview.

the fact harden passed the concussion test is scary. It challenges the viability of the test itself

Between the whistles vs. after the whistle + Artest's history = terrible comparison.

In before 'Calculated move by OKC so that Artest gets thrown out of the playoffs'
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.
