Seriously. It's pretty dang obvious. I'm not saying how likely such damage is - I don't know - but there's actually quite a bit of serious head trauma in the NBA. Concussions cause permanent damage. Broken noses are permanent damage. That hit looked to me like it was by the ear and jaw. A hit in that area could cause permanent hearing loss or TMJ.

The hit looked a lot more near the neck to me.

Bynum and Odom, in retrospect, should have been given stiffer penalties as well. But this is going to show where the league is at with regards to this stuff. Anything less than a permanent ban should be protested.

After all the BS that Artest has pulled through out the years Stern is starting to run out of options. Suspensions are not working on this guy so what is left? How many more chances does Artest deserve before he gets shown the door?

And people will call this disingenuous.

He's textbook passive aggressive. You don't see him taking people on straight up, he lets it build up, lashes out then feels bad about it. To top it off he sees himself as misunderstood.

Artest is a thug, smh. Is Harden going to be okay? Because that's what really matters - Artest isn't an impact player.

I think they should just book a thirty minute slot on ESPN where Artest is tied down on a bed and James Harden gets to smack him in the head with a wrench.

Then the NBA can go with the new motto: eye for an eye, as an aggressive marketing campaign to open up interest in the middle east.

I can see where Artest is coming from. Don't be running all up on me like that. You gotta give a man some space when he's pumped up and emotional. Harden ran into Artest first. He could have walked by him but chose to walk INTO him. That's disrespectful. So he got hit. He could have totally avoided the whole situation.

yes. That stupid harden shouldn't be bumping into people. And if he does, its his fault if he gets an elbow to the back of the ear.

Ban Artest for life. Im sick of this guy.

I just understand why Artest did what he did. Some of you are waaaay too emotionally involved. Everybody is posting with there emotions and not actually understanding the situation. The fact that people are saying Artest should be banned or suspended for the whole playoffs just confirms that.

Harden walked into Artest's path and bumped him while he was celebrating. He disrespected him, and Artest made a move. He wasn't trying to literally knock the guy out so everybody calm down.

Not me. I actually really like Ron. He just has a hair trigger. I'm sure he feels bad, and my talk about banning him isn't because I think he "deserves" it. It's just a question of what kind of punishment makes sense for a violent repeat offender.

Those who don't think he should be banned: Tell me what punishment you think can be given to Ron that will make sure this never happens again.

1 game suspension, Nash loses teeth

cmn, its not nearly the same. Nash got right up in Malones face and KM was clearing space so he could make the pass. Yeah, I'm sure he didn't mind decking him in the process but its not close to the same category as to what Ron did today.

This second offense WAS NOT intentionally, so it should be dealed with accordingly but a lifetime ban would be overstepping.

the players association could destroy the NBA in court.

Harden learned the hard way not to get up in MWP's face. That's just his inexperience I think that made him do that. With that being said, MWP doesn't need to be in the league anymore when you factor in his past history. No sane player is going to want to guard his crazy unstable ass.

Clearly MWP meant to hit harden and should get multiple games. but I don't think he meant to get him like that. harden was clearly trying to get up in MWP business while he was celebrating. He is like the dumb ass that thinks it would be funny to take a pit bulls bone and ends up losing some fingers. There is no reason that an offensive player should push a defensive player who is not even paying attention to him on a inbound play.

I definitely don't think a lifetime ban. Minimum would be the remaining regular season games and one playoff series. I'd probably just give it a flat 25 game ban. Melo got 15 for the Knicks Nuggets brawl, and Artest gets additional punishment because of his reputation.
But do you know what they call a fool, who's full of himself and jumps into the path of death because it's cool?

this is really good advice. whenever a player does something stupid or criticism worthy, fans need to man up and swallow it. like when a player chokes or worse, flops, as a fan you just gotta man up and stop crying about the hate it brings. amiright?

Also, you can tell who the lesser educated members of RealGM are by questioning how an elbow to the HEAD (especially that part of the head, where the skull isn't as thick; the skull is thickest in its anterior and posterior portions) from a 260 pound man could potentially cause brain damage is just completely and woefully ignorant of basic human anatomy. I mean, this stuff is just common sense.

Artest has a history of misconduct and he nailed harden really bad there. Should be a very rough suspension but well deserved. Lets see if Stu Jackson has the common sense to do whats right
